WHL: Stone Keeps Rolling

Sami Sandell (2005), LW
Unique skating style that appears a bit awkward, but doesn't seem to hamper him from getting in the mix .. played on a line with Codey Burki and Ryan Reeves .. although he tends to get knocked off the puck or out of the play rather easily he still goes in to the dirty areas, albeit he isn't very effective when he gets there .. elusive skater with very good mobility .. received a PIM while showing some fire by taking a run at a player .. ties up his man well off the draw .. gets in quick on the forecheck .. lacks the strength to fend off checkers or conversely make life difficult for the puckcarrier.

Eric Fehr (Wsh), RW
Wheat Kings' leader showed why he's second in the WHL in goals tonight .. is extremely strong on the puck and uses his excellent overall speed and strength to fight through heavy traffic .. played on a line with Ryan Stone and Corey Courchene .. uses an active stick while checking which often results in a turnover .. plays on both special teams .. very mobile with good acceleration .. counted on in every situation especially late in the game when his team needs to either score a goal or protect a lead.
Ryan Stone (Pit), C
Penguins draft pick is strong on the puck and wins more than his share of battles in traffic .. played on a line with Eric Fehr and Corey Courchene .. wears an A .. displayed excellent top end speed and strength fending off a defenseman wide and then taking the puck to the net .. plays on the PK and PP .. strong on the draw and takes his man .. made a beautiful seeing-eye backhanded pass from behind the net to create a scoring chance .. makes a quick transition from defense to offense .. uses an active stick to cut down passing lanes .. was a bit lackadaisical in his failure to retrieve a shot around the boards which was turned in to another opposition scoring chance .. has the vision to find the holes .. on the ice late in the game with his team needing a goal.
Lance Monych (Phx), RW
Dominant when he plays with an edge, however doesn't always play with the necessary desire away from the puck .. played on a line with Teegan Moore and Derek LeBlanc .. finishes his checks with gusto .. excellent first step quickness and overall speed .. displayed tremendous vision by finding a trailer in the slot and dishing out a crisp tape-to-tape pass for an excellent scoring chance .. takes a hit to make a play .. finds the open spaces in the offensive end .. needs to work on keeping his feet moving away from the play as he had allowed a forward to sneak behind him .. very effective killing penalties when he is using his speed to pressure the puckcarrier .. also plays on the powerplay .. dished out a beautiful pass while shorthanded to send a teammate on a breakaway for Brandon's first goal .. takes the pass at full speed and without breaking stride .. picked up the open forward sneaking in to the slot .. quality stickhandler made even more dangerous due to his elite speed and strength .. gets in quick on the forecheck and really closes the gaps and passing lanes .. received more ice time when his team was trailing.
Tim Konsorada (CBJ), RW
Has good hockey sense and elite vision, although he isn't the most fleet of foot .. played on a line with Mark Shefchyk and Jeff Topilko .. applies pressure on the point man when killing a PIM .. long stride, but average jump and mobility .. finishes his checks .. nice overall speed .. played the point on PP .. creates a lot of trouble for the opposing team killing penalties as he is very smart about getting his shots through from the point .. dishes out solid hits when he gets there, however mobility is an issue .. defensively conscientious .. sometimes gets caught trying to stick check because he's flat footed .. failed to tie up his man on two separate occasions in front of the net .. came back to replace the defenseman that had pinched in .. seems to be a scoring threat when he gets the opportunity .. dished a vicious cross check to take out a player in front of the goalie .. strong upperbody .. on the ice late in the game trailing by a goal.
Codey Burki (2006), C
Slick skating young pivot is progressing nicely, but is still prone to mental mistakes in his own end and hasn't yet acquired the vision in the offensive zone to make him a player to watch .. played on a line with Sami Sandell and Ryan Reeves .. was caught watching the play instead of picking up the man breaking free in the slot .. got some time on the four-on-four.
