WHL: Robak, Schenn Calvert Notes

Colby Robak (2008), D, Brandon
Slick skating blueliner looks comfortable partnered with Chad Erb .. plays with confidence .. boasts splendid jump out of the blocks .. sometimes allows himself to get drawn too high up, which exposes him to have opponents slip in behind coverage .. really likes to pinch in from the point looking for a pass .. delivers a crisp, clean outlet pass .. displays good vision .. can get mesmerized by the puck .. generally moves the puck at the right time .. seems to have a sixth sense for avoiding getting hit hard .. reads the play well .. his mobility is pretty good, but speedier players can beat him wide .. looks pretty strong on his skates .. wins his fair share of races to loose pucks .. uses his positioning and a quick stick to create turnovers .. doesn't see a ton of time on the penalty-kill .. sports the ability to take a puckcarrier solidly out along the wall with a clean firm body check .. would like to see some sandpaper from him, especially in from him especially in front of his own net .. usually puts the pass right on the tape .. displays good imagination with the puck, however lacks some desperation and fire at times. Brayden Schenn (2009), C, Brandon
Centered a youthful line of Matt Calvert and Scott Glennie .. extremely mobile younger brother of Luke .. boasts the ability to make a quick transition on a turnover .. has top flight speed and can close the gap quickly on the puckcarrier .. still needs to add strength to his 6-foot-0, 195-pound frame .. not opposed to getting physical and has been known to throw a hard hit .. takes the pass smoothly .. is not hesitant to go directly at a defenseman with the puck .. has a dangerous shot that is fairly heavy .. will a get a goalie going the wrong way .. plays on the powerplay .. leads the Brandon Wheat Kings in assists and points as well as being second on the team in goals and plus minus with a +20 rating. Matt Calvert (2008), LW, Brandon
Speedy, but small (5-foot-9, 175-pounds), left winger showed great chemistry on a line with Scott Glennie and centered by Brayden Schenn .. boasts very good mobility and has the speed to pressure the puckcarrier .. sports the ability to be able to beat a defender on the outside while getting the shot away accurately enough and with enough zip to beat the goalie to the far corner .. does a nice job closing the gap quickly on the forecheck .. plays on the powerplay and takes a lot of the face-offs on the penalty-kill .. needs to improve his strength as he is limited in heavy traffic .. although not overly strong on the puck he can be tenacious tracking it down.
