WHL Player of the Week - Trevor Cox

CALGARY, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Medicine Hat Tigers forward Trevor Cox is the Denny's WHL Player of the Week (December 15th- 28th, 2014).
Cox tallied 13 points (3g-10a), while posting a plus-six rating in three games over the span as the Tigers posted a 2-1-0-0 record.

On Wednesday, December 17th, Cox scored the insurance marker and set up four others while earning second star honours in a 7-3 triumph over the visiting Kamloops Blazers. After returning from the holiday break, he chipped in with two helpers in a 6-5 loss to the host Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday, December 27th. On Sunday December 28th, Cox notched six points (2g-4a) and was selected as the game's second star in an 8-4 victory over the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Cox, a 19-year-old from Surrey, B.C., has notched 62 points (14g-48a) along with a plus-26 rating in 36 games so far this season. Cox leads the WHL in scoring and his 48 assists is also good for first in the league. The 5'8", 164 lb. forward is in his fourth season in the WHL with the Tigers where he has amassed 197 points (65g-132a) in 235 career regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Cody Porter of the Vancouver Giants for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Porter, a 17-year-old North Vancouver, B.C. product, registered a 1.00 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage in two starts during the past two weeks. On Tuesday, December 16th, Porter made 24 saves while also claiming third star honours as the Giants edged the visiting Everett Silvertips 2-1. On Saturday, December 27th, Porter turned aside 21 of 22 shots and was named the game's second star in a 1-0 setback to the host Everett Silvertips in overtime. Now in his first WHL campaign with the Vancouver Giants, Porter has posted a 5-6-1-0 record with two shutouts in 18 career regular season appearances.
