WHL Player of the Month - Mathew Barzal

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Seattle Thunderbirds forward Mathew Barzal is the WHL Player of the Month for November 2015.
Barzal, an 18-year-old from Coquitlam, BC, amassed 22 points (3g-19a) to go along with a plus-three rating in 13 games played during the month of November. Barzal recorded multiple-point outings on eight occasions, including two games in which he collected at least three points to guide the Thunderbirds to a record of 7-5-1-0 in the month.

Barzal's performances in November saw him collect three first star honours, two second star selections and a third star nod. The forward's efforts during November have helped Seattle maintain first place in the U.S. Division standings. Barzal also suited up for Team WHL at the 2015 CHL Canada Russia Series and tallied two assists in two games. In November, Barzal was in on 49% of all Thunderbirds goals.
The 6-0, 187 lb forward is tied for first amongst all WHL players in assists with 33 and is tied for third overall in scoring with 40 points (7g-33a) in just 22 games. Barzal is in his third WHL season with the Thunderbirds and has tallied 151 points (33g-118a) along with a plus-26 rating in 125 career regular season contests. The New York Islanders selected Barzal 16th overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Earlier on Tuesday, Barzal was named to Canada's National Junior Team Selection Camp which begins December 10th in Toronto.
Barzal's accomplishments make him a deserving choice as the WHL Player of the Month for November.
