WHL: Mitchell, Not a Perfect 10

Alex Pym (2009), D, Regina
Selected by the Pats in the third round (51st overall) of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft .. was a member of Team West at the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge last season .. can be a tad slow to react to impending danger near his net and will also be pressured in to making mistakes .. communicates with his defensive partner .. lacks the quickness to handle speedier puckcarriers one-on-one .. a decent junior player with adequate size at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, but without the tools to go much farther. Garrett Mitchell (2009), RW, Regina
Average sized right winger is listed at 5-foot-11, 180-pounds was a second round selection (33rd overall) of the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft .. skates with purpose .. played for Team Canada at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka U-18 Tournament .. very mobile with a nonstop motor that helps him to get in quickly on the forecheck .. works hard with or without the puck and is defensively conscientious .. seems to lack an elite extra gear to provide separation between him and the opposition .. generally does a nice job using his body to shield the puck .. at his best when he keeps his feet moving .. is a regular on the penalty kill and has a shorthanded goal .. occasionally sees a small amount of time on the powerplay .. must get stronger as he still can get overmatched in heavy traffic .. a solid energy player on the third line .. he's on the radar of scouts for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, however is far from a high end prospect at this time. (32gp, 5-3-8)
Jordan Weal (2010), C, Regina
Pint-sized pivot is listed at 5-foot-9, 160-pounds .. is second only to Jordan Eberle on the Pats in team scoring .. chosen in the fourth round (79th overall) of the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft .. tricky stickhandler with the escapability to elude the big hits .. looks poised in the offensive zone and rarely panics in close .. not hesitant to shoot, but tends to be more of a playmaker .. is able to gain speed coming out of the corner and has the vision to find the open man or the quick release to and accuracy to pick the corner .. displays nice chemistry with Jordan Eberle .. a regular on the powerplay even saw some time at the point .. has the ability to the pass the puck to where his linemates can skate in to it .. an exciting prospect for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. (31gp, 9-27-36)
Matt Strueby (2009), C, Regina
Eligible last season for the NHL Entry Draft .. is a tad slow moving side-to-side and his first few steps are slushy .. gets in traffic to fight for position .. will stick up for his teammates .. a regular on the powerplay .. boasts a healthy 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame .. once again lacks the tools to be drafted. (31gp, 15-16-31)
Myles Bell (2011), D, Regina
Youngster looked a bit like a deer in the headlights without the puck .. chosen in the first round (17th overall) in this years' WHL Bantam Draft .. hits with authority .. looks a tad hesitant on reading the play and reacting .. some of his passes were a bit off the mark in what looked to be due to nerves .. boasts a quick release and a fairly heavy shot .. has some trouble physically handling the man in the dirty areas, but that isn't unexpected at his age .. slow to react to dump ins and turn around and retrieve it .. a regular on the powerplay .. not bad clearing the zone with a headman pass.
