WHL: Heart of Glass

Jeff Glass (2004), G
Started in net for the Ice .. communicates well with his defense .. excellent glove save, picking up the point shot through a crowd .. squares himself to the shooters .. handles the puck effectively .. tried to clear the puck up the middle and had it intercepted .. plays very compact in the goal, forcing the shooter to try and go high .. in the right position, but appeared to guess on a few shots through traffic .. came across well to stop a close in scoring chance .. very athletic .. plays his angles well and generally forces the opposition in to making the first move .. looked solid stopping a shot by going side to a side while maintaining his angles .. throws his body in harm’s way .. displays composure when run over .. steered most rebounds in to the corner .. thanks to a quick pad save, he stoned a player on a clear cut breakaway .. doesn’t second guess himself when he decides to commit to playing the puck .. so sound positionally that even when he doesn’t see the puck it often will hit him .. selected the second star of the game.

Nigel Dawes (New York Rangers), LW
Wears the C ..played on a line with Aaron Bader and Dale Mahovsky .. covered for his defense at the point when they jumped up in to the play .. whiffed on a one timer from the slot .. uses his elite vision to find the holes .. although not rugged he will take a hit to make a play .. cuts down space and time on the forecheck .. very elusive skater in the offensive zone .. recipient of a lucky bounce off the boards behind the opponent’s net and he easily tucked the puck home .. on the penalty-kill and powerplay .. scored a nifty shorthanded goal shooting the puck along the ice .. takes the pass at full speed and knows how to beat a defender one on one .. simply amazing that a player of his reputation is constantly able to get in the open in prime scoring areas .. selected the first star.
Jeremy Schenderling (2004), C
Played on a line with Martin Sagat and Adam Cracknell .. comes back deep to support the defense .. accepts the pass confidently .. must become more aggressive as he plays a little too passively and tends to play on the perimeter .. got on late during the power play .. held off the opposing center on the draw during a powerplay to give the point man more time .. needs to display more girt and a consistent effort on each shift .. drew a penalty .. doesn’t stand out in any one area and is still a work in progress.
Martin Sagat (Toronto Maple Leafs), LW
Mediocre first step, but overall is a quick, fairly mobile skater with surprising top end speed .. turned over the puck by carelessly throwing it off the boards in his own end .. on both special teams .. once again turned over the puck without being pressured .. while forechecking, stripped the defender and got a quality scoring chance in close .. used his stick effectively to cut down passing lanes .. tries to take the body with varying degrees of success .. occasionally played the point on the powerplay .. lanky, but has the strength to take a hit .. goes to the net.
