Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Florida Panthers prospect Jayce Hawryluk of the Brandon Wheat Kings is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 6 after recording 16 points in four games including 10 goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-12.

Hawryluk contributed four multi-point efforts to the Wheat Kings’ offense last week helping the WHL’s Eastern Conference leaders collect four straight wins. Last Wednesday he recorded a career-high five goals and added an assist to match a season-high six points as first star of a 12-2 victory over the Saskatoon Blades. He followed that effort with two big performances against the Moose Jaw Warriors including a goal and two assists on Friday in a 6-3 win, and Saturday with two goals and two assists in a 7-2 victory over their division rivals. Hawryluk finished the week with two goals and an assist as second star of an 8-1 win over the Regina Pats giving the Wheat Kings a first place record of 43-18-4-2 with five regular season games remaining.

A 20-year-old from Roblin, MB, Hawryluk is playing in his fourth WHL season with the Wheat Kings. He currently ranks fourth in league scoring with a career-high 40 goals and 55 assists for 95 points in 53 games. Earlier this month the 2014 second round pick signed an entry-level contract with the Panthers who selected him 32nd overall.

Also considered for the award this week was San Jose Sharks prospect Timo Meier of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies who scored six goals and five assists for 11 points in four games played, and Hunter Garlent of the Peterborough Petes who scored six goals with one assist for seven points in two games.
