Nobles - Deerfield (3:0)
A penalty-filled game which helped Nobles display their numerous offensive talents. Senior captain Mark Fayne (Providence) and Chris Huxley (RPI) were strong on the backend with the goals being supplied by Huxley, Ryan Maguire, Josh Franklin. Fayne picked up two assists on Franklin and Huxley's goals, while junior goalie John Muse produced his second shutout of the tournament and looked solid all game. Deerfield's speedy and physical junior forward Michael Del Mauro was forced to leave the game after receiving a penalty for hitting from behind. Deerfield was unable to generate many scoring chances.
Salisbury - Phillips Andover (4:1)
Despite many penalties, this matchup still had great pace especially in the third period. With the game tied 0-0, Salisbury took advantage of the power plays in the second and buried Phillips. Senior Will Ortiz paced Salisbury with a pair of goals, while Mark Arcobello (Yale) and sophomore Paul Carey added singles. Phillips got on the board when senior Hunter Thunell (Brown) scored on a nice pass from senior Paul Scola.
Fifth Place Game: Deerfield - Phillips Andover (1:1 OT)
Two evenly-matched teams, however no winner as the game ended in a 1-1 tie after a five minute overtime. Phillips Andover got a goal from senior captain J.P. Martignetti, while Deerfield responded with a goal from sophomore Chip Daugherty. Unfortunately, former NTDP forward Chris Cahill did not play, while Deerfield was missing speedy Michael Del Mauro who was suspended from the first game.
Consolation Game: Westminster - Hotchkiss (2:1)
Another close game in which Westminster scored twice on the power play to slip by Hotchkiss, led by senior captain Ben Smith (Boston College) with a goal and an assist. Junior Adam Kaiser replied for Hotchkiss. The score was 1-1 after the first when Westminster's other senior captain Jon Wolter scored after a nice fake around the defender. In the third period, both teams had excellent scoring chances, but Westminster's senior goalie Bryce Shattie shut the door. Hotchkiss outshot Westminster 25 to 20.
Championship Game: Salisbury - Nobles (4:3 OT)
Mark it down - these two teams will meet in the New England Prep School Finals! This was an exciting game which had everything a hockey fan would want to see: highlight-reel goals, great saves, hard hits, and an overtime winner! The contest featured numerous potential Division 1 college players and even a few displaying pro potential. A quiet first period was followed by an action-filled second as Salisbury scored three quick goals courtesy of Will Ortiz, senior captain Alex Biega and younger brother Michael Biega. It had the makings of a blowout until Nobles coach Brian Day called a time out to regroup and his squad responded immediately within a minute. A goal by junior Michael Griffin sparked Nobles who continued to dominate play and drew to within one on a marker from senior Mike Murray via a beautiful pass from Mark Fayne. Both teams played hard and traded good scoring chances late in the second which carried on into the final period. Nobles goalie John Muse settled down admirably and made some incredible saves, while Salisbury's sophomore goalie Anthony Borelli countered by stopping a 2-on-1. With time running out, Nobles defense, led by Fayne and Chris Huxley, started taking more chances and jumping into the play, and it paid off as Huxley tied the game. Nobles nearly pulled it out with two minutes left in regulation as Jimmy Hayes missed a glorious opportunity when the puck slid off his stick in front of the net. Salisbury's Alex Biega also engineered a flashy rush that created a stir in front of Noble's net. In overtime, following a wonderful scoring chance for Nobles, Salisbury's Will Ortiz (Tournament MVP) found the puck in the slot and fired it into the top of the net.
