Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM and Reebok player awards for the 27th week of the 2012-13 USHL regular season.
Award winners include Ian McCoshen from the Waterloo Black Hawks, selected as CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Cal Petersen of the Waterloo Black Hawks, honored as Reebok Goaltender of the Week.
Ian McCoshen, D, Waterloo Black Hawks: The Boston College commit went on a tear this week, recording four points (2g, 2a) in two games played and helped limit the opposition to just one goal. He lit the lamp and added two assists in a 7-0 win over the Tri-City Storm on Friday. He found the back of the net again, on the power play, in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Fargo Force. In addition to his four points, McCoshen was a part of a penalty killing unit that was a perfect 10-for-10 in their two games. The Hudson, WI native is currently riding a five-game point streak, tallying three goals and four assists over that span. He ranks second amongst USHL defensemen with 40 points (11g, 29a). The 17-year-old ranks third in both goals and assists and is fourth among League blueliners with a plus-26 on-ice rating. He is a top prospect for the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft.
Cal Petersen, G, Waterloo Black Hawks: The Waterloo, IA native was lights out this past weekend, posting a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .984 save percentage. He pitched his third shutout of the year on Friday with a 27-save performance in Waterloo's 7-0 win over the Tri-City Storm. He came back with another solid outing on Saturday, stopping 38 shots in a 2-1 victory over the Fargo Force. It was the 20th victory of his USHL career. Petersen currently is sporting a 17-11-1 record with a 3.02 GAA and .903 SV% this season. The 18-year-old has allowed one goal or fewer in four of his last six victories and is tied for third among all USHL goaltenders with three shutouts this season. Petersen is committed to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame following his USHL career and is a top goaltending prospect for the 2013 NHL Draft.
