USA Select 17: Team Green

Zach Budish (2009), LW/C, Edina High School
Big and strong with skill, Budish is a football player on skates that needs to upgrade his mobility .. has heavy feet and choppy stride, but it doesn't prevent him from owning decent acceleration for a big man .. he sees the ice well in possession and is poised under pressure, as he helps negate his lack of speed with accurate up-ice passes .. utilizes his great size and strength to be strong along the wall and to stimulate his superb puck protection .. marries his sturdiness on his feet and the puck with his exemplary hand skill to become an offensive threat in tight around the net .. not a naturally aggressive player, but Budish can hit hard and will take a hit to make a play .. still learning the intricacies of the defensive game and although the effort is there, he still prioritizes his offensive opportunities over defensive responsibilities .. one of the most promising Minnesota High School prospect's available for this years draft.

Michael Montrose (2009), D, Waterloo Blackhawks
A small offensive defenseman that is awful defensively .. a technically flawless skater with great feet .. guilty of attempting to skate the puck up-ice too often instead of making the safe pass to an open line mate, as he tends to dead end himself with the puck and then gets easily stripped off of it by an opponent .. has good vision with the puck and can distribute it up ice effectively when he applies his skill-set properly, however he tries too many low percentage plays and gets caught up-ice behind the play too often .. like a fourth forward on the ice, Montrose is always pinching and jumping trying to create offense with little recourse of his defensive assignments .. is a defensive liability that often gets caught on the wrong side of the puck and is easily beaten to the net .. he may make a better forward, as he owns the soft hands and quick shot to score.
Ryan Daugherty (2009), RW, Omaha Lancers
A skillful and inventive offensive player with the resiliency to progress his game further .. a lively, wide-based skater that displays some moxie carrying the puck .. possesses soft hands and doesn't let his lack of strength get in the way of him attacking the net with vigor .. a creative and high tempo offensive player that displays a great inner drive to make something with the puck every shift .. gets pushed around by larger opponents because of his evident lack of muscle-mass, but he's wiry and thanks to his quick stick and sharp puck focus he does win the occasional one-on-one confrontation for possession .. his defensive play needs a vast upgrade and he must bulk-up, but the skill-set and fortitude are here.
Eamonn McDermott (2010), D, Undecided
A small offensive defenseman .. overall a swift skater, however he has some technical deficiencies in his skating that need to be ironed out to stimulate more encompassing mobility .. needs to bend his knees more and extend further through his stride, while also improving his stride recovery .. poised with the puck and is an accurate passer with some skill .. small and light as a feather, McDermott gets tossed around like a rag doll by larger opponents and he simply can't defend .. a decent NCAA prospect, but nothing more as of now.
