USA Hockey: Detroit Compuware

Detroit Compuware has the best minor midget team in the country and it's filled to the brim with promising prospects. McKeen's director of scouting Max Giese files his reports on several of their top prospects including Blake Pietila (pictured), who is rapidly progressing into a bonafide prospect.
Cason Hohmann (2011), C, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget

Texas native that was a 3rd round WHL pick by Portland, although rumors persist that he's taking the NCAA route .. skating wise, Hohmann is more quick and shifty than fast .. blessed with remarkable individual skills, as his hands are lightning fast and he can dangle in a phone booth .. uses a short stick and his in-close puck skills are top notch .. slippery and uses his miniature-sized frame to his advantage, as his great self-preservation skills leave opponents struggling to check him .. can thread the needle with a pass or shot from both sides of his stick .. plays in traffic and occasionally will make a nice play on the backcheck, although he is guilty of overhandling the puck.
Blake Pietila (2011), C, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
A cerebral, playmaking centerman that has come on in a big way over the course of the year .. owns an influential first stride and a deceptive outside gear .. has supple hands with exemplary protection skills that enables him to execute deft moves in high traffic areas .. his hockey sense and vision are of an elite quality, as he anticipates the game one step ahead of his peers and he can orchestrate plays as if he knew what was going to happen before it already did .. patiently slows the game down and can buy himself extra time with the puck .. currently is only average sized, but he competes and has a projectable frame .. presently, his defensive play is lethargic and he is often prone to just trailing the play with no real purpose.
Colin Suellentrop (2011), D, Detroit Compuware Minor Midgets
Raw defenseman from Florida that has all the personal skills needed to succeed at the next level .. has the size and great skating ability forwards and backwards, although his lateral mobility needs improvement .. strong and nasty, as he likes to play physical and is a good hitter .. displays decent skill on the point and does a nice job getting shots through traffic .. limited experience playing at a high level is reflected in his limited hockey sense, although it is improving.
Jacob MacDonald (2011), D, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
Smooth and steady two-way defenseman .. doesn't wow you, but is extremely solid .. capable of skillful rushes with the puck and he quickly scouts the ice before executing a crisp head-man pass .. astutely picks his spots when joining the rush and is a proactive player away from the puck that anticipates the play well .. needs to activate his feet more at times while working the point and could quicken his wind-up.
Peter Hand (2011), D, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
Physical defenseman that is tough and loves to hit .. like a heat-seeking missile, Hand looks to take opponents out on every shift and forces the opposition to keep their head up coming through the neutral zone .. has some offensive skills, but he takes way too many chances and is always looking to kill someone .. a train wreck at times and needs to simplify his game.
Craig Duininck (2011), D, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
Minnesota-raised defenseman with very good upside .. his quickness and overall speed need work, but he has progressed in this area over the course of the season .. his stride has some strength behind it now and he's showing the ability to cut down the ice and recover when necessary .. owns a bone-rattling shot that he keeps low and gets on net .. versatile and can play forward too.
Stefan Noesen (2011), RW, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
Originally from Texas, Noesen is a powerforward with a natural scoring touch .. excellent at manufacturing offense from along the wall and below the hash marks, although he is very quiet elsewhere on the ice .. despite his noticeable advantage in size and strength, Noesen lacks a competitive fire and his feet are heavy.
Jonathan Miller (2011), C, Detroit Compuware Minor Midget
Two-way forward that excels at the defensive aspects of the game .. skates well and plays hard at both ends of the ice .. has a future at the higher levels of play killing penalties, as he innately understands how to angle the puckcarrier into dead ends .. has a gangly frame and a raw physical game.
