Talbot Daigneault - QMJHL Players of the Week

The Québec Major Junior Hockey League announced its offensive and defensive players of the week selected for the period of Monday February 24 to Sunday March 2nd, 2003.
Hull Olympiques’ left centre player Maxime Talbot, is the offensive player of the week in the QMJHL. Maxime, who is from Lemoyne, Québec, had a great offensive week: in 3 games, he scored 9 goals and added 6 assists for 15 points and +12.

In a 5-3 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Wednesday, February 26, he scored 1 goal, added 3 assists for 4 points and the first star. On Friday night, in a 13-1 victory over the Sherbrooke Castors, he scored 5 goals (team record for the most goals in one game), got 2 assists for 7 points and the first star of the game. Yesterday afternoon in a 6-3 victory over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Maxime, who belongs to the Pittsburgh Penguins, scored 3 times and added 1 assist for 4 points and the first star.
Maxime Talbot has now 90 points after 62 games and he is the best scorer of his team. The Hull Olympiques scored 24 goals this week in their 3 wins. Hull will play in Rimouski tomorrow and in Québec on Wednesday.
Other nominated players are: Steve Bernier des/from Wildcats, Moncton; Jean-Michel Daoust des/from Olympiques, Hull; Robin Leblanc du/from Drakkar, Baie-Comeau.
Talented goaltender Maxime Daigneault from the Val-d’Or Foreurs is the defensive player of the week in the QMJHL. In 3 games and 3 wins, he preserved a 1.00 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage.
Wednesday night in a 3-2 victory over the Rocket in Montréal, Maxime, who belongs to the Washington Capitals, did 22 saves. In a 4-0 victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Friday, he received only 14 shots and got his second shutout of the season. In a 2-1 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Saturday, he did 17 saves.
Finally, the Foreurs are at the first rank of the Robert-LeBel Conference with 80 points; 4 points ahead of Victoriaville and Sherbrooke. The Foreurs will host the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Tuesday.
