QMJHL Report: Quebec Remparts

The Quebec Remparts have been at the top of the CHL rankings for most of the season. Featuring some very good depth, the team plays a very offensive-oriented style that has given opponents more than they could handle on most nights. Mckeen's correspondent Rick Springhetti looks at a few of the team's prospects.
Tomas Filippi (2011), LW, Quebec

Czech player represented his country at the 2010 world junior championship .. came out of the gates very well having a great month of September for the Remparts before cooling down in October .. finesse player who can contribute in an offensive role .. picks up speed quickly with the puck and has the capacity to control it well in all directions .. finds the opening quickly in the offensive zone and is capable of swiftly taking advantages of these spaces .. always seems to be at the right spot for a scoring chance .. has a good wristshot with a quick release .. unlike many players from Europe, he is not afraid to shoot the puck at every opportunity .. able to promptly corral passes and his hand-eye coordination is better than average .. makes an effective lead pass .. strong positional player in his own zone where he will try to use his quick hands to regain possession of the puck and get it to a teammate as fast as possible .. seems intimidated by physical play so opponents have started leaning into him right from the start of games.
Jimmy Appleby (2011), G, Quebec
Was the first pick for the Remparts at the 2009 QJMHL entry draft going in the second round .. undersized goaltender who has had a good start of the season .. controls his rebounds very well .. can leave the five-hole open when going down .. not a very effective puckhandler .. is very confident using his glove hand .. anticipates the oppositions' intentions well .. good leg strength, he is very quick from side to side and gets up quickly when he is down.. keeps his focus well when not facing too many shots .. not too quick to go down taking up as much room in front of the crease as his frame will allow .. keeps his stick high and always in good position.
Axel Rioux (2012), LW, Quebec
QJMHL rookie was born in France .. average skater, but his work ethic has given him more and more icetime as the season progresses .. doesn't have great vision but does have hustle and willingness to go to the net hard .. has a nasty wristshot that moves around quite a bit .. could be better at corralling passes .. keeps his shifts short so he is always able to bring a lot of energy once he is on the ice .. supports his defense well .. doesn't needlessly run around in his own zone holding his positions very well .. stick always stays down and in movement so he can cut the passing lanes well .. has to fill-out his 6-foot-1, 164-pound frame.
