QMJHL: Baie Comeaus GGG Report

The Baie Comeau Drakkar has struggled this season in most part to their poor defensive play. However, they do have some offensive talent led by 2009 NHL-draft eligible prospects Gabriel Bourque, Guillaume Goulet and Emrik Guillemette. McKeen's correspondent Rick Springhetti has notes on all three youngsters along with Pierre-Luc Lessard and Antoine Letourneau.
Pierre-Luc Lessard (Ott), D, Baie Comeau

Effective when he plays a simple game .. needs to make quicker decisions with the puck especially when manning the point on the powerplay .. skating is only average, as he can get into trouble against opposing forwards with some speed coming in from the outside .. plays a positionally sound game in his zone .. plays a reasonably physical game.
Gabriel Bourque (2009), C, Baie Comeau
Very hardworking player, as he does not quit on any play .. sneaky player who finds open spaces regularly in the offensive zone .. protects the puck well using his low center of gravity .. passes the puck effectively and knows when to use the stretch pass .. spots open players very quickly and can feed them the puck with a tape-to-tape pass .. supports his teammates well in transition .. will stand-up for himself against bigger opponents .. needs to improve his defensive game .. named team captain in January.
Guillaume Goulet (2009), RW, Baie Comeau
Small forward but does not let that deter him from going to the net hard .. chippy player, he will always respond to physical play sometimes leading him to get into some penalty trouble .. most of the time, he takes stick infractions .. very good one-on-one moves .. defensemen have to give him room because of this, which gives him the opportunity to use a very strong wristshot .. hits his top speed in only a few strides .. quick skater, he does not slow down when handling the puck .. needs to improve his understanding of the defensive game .. tends to run around in his own zone .. to his credit, he will block shots coming from the point.
Emrik Guillemette (2009), LW, Baie Comeau
Huge player .. moves fairly well in a straight line, but has trouble with pivots .. lacks coordination in terms of foot movement .. hard and heavy shot that is on net but has a slow windup .. can hit the top corners with regularity .. has a lot of problems stickhandling the puck .. plays a fairly physical game but would like to see him hit with more authority .. not a very imaginative player, as he makes simple passes and then goes to the net.
Antoine Letourneau (2010), D, Baie Comeau
Undersized player, but still tries to play the body .. very fluid skater .. keeps his head up and moving when handling the puck .. moves the puck out of his zone very quickly, but tends to skate himself into dead ends at time .. has a tendency to make long passes that are usually cut-off by opponents instead of making safer plays .. needs to get his shot through more, as they are too often blocked leading to some scoring chances .. surprisingly effective in his own zone by playing the puck instead of the man .. has trouble moving opposing players out from the front of his net.
