QA with Peter MacIntyre

Peter MacIntyre, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound power forward, was ranked #186 by Central Scouting in their Mid-Term Rankings. He began the 2009-10 season playing for the Boston Advantage Midget team, but has since made the jump to the South Shore Kings (EJHL). South Shore is the top team in the EJHL and has two other players ranked on Central's Mid-Term Ranking (Charlie Coyle - #19 and Chris Wagner - #178). MacIntyre is still adjusting to the level of play, however it should not take him much longer to start asserting himself in the EJHL.
McKeen's: How did you become interested in hockey? At what age did you start playing organized hockey?

MacIntyre: I started skating at about 4-years old with my older brother in a backyard rink. I started playing organized hockey for Parkway Youth Hockey at the age of 6.
McKeen's: Describe the type of game you play. What are your strengths? Weaknesses?
MacIntyre: I am a power forward that plays a puck-possession game. I like holding onto the puck trying to make the perfect pass. My size, speed and hands are my greatest strengths. My weight - I have gained 20 pounds since last year but I need to gain another 20 pounds to be more effective.
McKeen's: What would you say is the most underrated facet to your game?
MacIntyre: My speed. Everyone expects at my size that I should be slow. I am usually one of the fastest skaters on my team
McKeen's: Which NHL player do you model your game after and why?
MacIntyre: Joe Thornton. We have the same body type and play the same style game. So he is a great person to learn from. I love watching his puck-possession skills and playmaking ability
McKeen's: Who are the five most talented players you've played against and what specifically do you admire about their styles?
MacIntyre: That is too hard to answer. I have been fortunate to play with and against some of the best players in my age group throughout the country.
McKeen's: You are from Norfolk, MA. Where did you play before Boston Advantage/ South Shore Kings?
MacIntyre: I played (10-12 years old) for the '91 Providence Capital. That was an amazing team almost half the players are now D-1 commits. I played for King Philip High School for two years before joining Tim Lovell's program full time.
McKeen's: Describe your decision process in leaving Boston Advantage Midget and deciding to join the South Shore Kings (EJHL)?
MacIntyre: It was a tough decision. Tim and Joe Lovell have been my mentors and coaches for years. The NHL and College scouts wanted to see if I could play my same game against older players. We all agreed that I should make the move.
McKeen's: What has been the biggest adjustment from the midget level to the juniors?
MacIntyre: The speed is faster and the game is more physical.
McKeen's: Have you talked with any colleges, if so, which ones?
MacIntyre: Yes, Northeastern, UMaine and UMass Amherst
McKeen's: What were your expectations coming into this season and have they changed now that you have joined South Shore?
MacIntyre: My goal for each season is to continually improve. I was able to control the puck at the midget level, now I have the challenge of controlling the puck at the EJ level.
McKeen's: Describe your summer? Do you play a lot of hockey or relax and workout? What do you focus on during off-season training?
MacIntyre: I train hard in the summers. I don't really play any games or tournaments. I work on-ice and off-ice on my skills, speed and strength.
McKeen's: The NHL Entry Draft will be coming up for you this year. Are you thinking about it at all?
MacIntyre: I try to concentrate on the games and my contribution, but, it is hard not to think about it.
McKeen's: Is there any NHL team that you follow closely?
MacIntyre: I enjoy watching hockey but I don't follow any particular NHL team.
McKeen's: Which areas do you consider you have to improve to succeed in the next level in college and further?
MacIntyre: I feel I have to continue to improve my weight and strength.
