QA With Cam Ward

Selected in the first round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, Cam Ward takes time to answer a few questions.
McKeens: When and where did you start playing hockey?

Cam Ward: I started playing in Saskatoon at the age of 6.
McKeens: Is there any particular person who has been influential in your
career?
Cam Ward: Definitely my dad, he has showed me the way as a goaltender early in my development.
McKeens: Are there any players in the NHL you watch and admire?
Cam Ward: There are so many, too hard to single out one.
McKeens: What do you love most about playing hockey?
Cam Ward: I love the pressure and competitiveness. But mostly just having fun
and enjoying the game.
McKeens: What is your biggest success so far in your career?
Cam Ward: Getting drafted by Carolina in the first round of the draft.
McKeens: How would you describe your game to someone who has never seen you
play?
Cam Ward: Very positional, not flashy, Calm and fluid. I enjoy playing the puck.
McKeens: What do you think is the strongest part of your game?
Cam Ward: My mind set towards the game. I don't get rattled or bothered easily, which benefits a goaltender.
McKeens: What do you feel you have to improve on before making the jump to the next level?
Cam Ward: I think all areas need to improve. You are never perfect, there is
always room for improvement.
McKeens: Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
Cam Ward: Not really, just eat and arrive at the rink the same time every
game.
McKeens: Do you play any other sports besides hockey?
Cam Ward: I golf in the summer, used to play volleyball and baseball.
McKeens: Do you have any hobbies or things you like to do on your free time?
Cam Ward: Play PS2, Listening to music, boating in the summer.
McKeens: Do you have a nickname?
Cam Ward: Wardo
McKeens: What is your goal for the remainder of the season and heading into next
season?
Cam Ward: To have a great pro camp and play up to my capabilities, wherever that
may be.
