Proulx MacIntyre - QMJHL Players of the Week

The Québec Major Junior Hockey League announced its offensive and defensive players of the week selected for the period of Monday January 13 to Sunday January 19, 2003.
Olivier Proulx of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar is the offensive player of the week in the QMJHL. In 3 games last week, this veteran left centre scored 4 goals and got 4 assists for 8 points and +3.

In a 3-0 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres last Tuesday January 14, Olivier got 1 assist. In a 7-4 victory over the Québec Remparts last Thursday, he scored 2 goals - his 6th in shorthanded situation - and got 2 assists for 4 points. Saturday, while the Cataractes were in Baie-Comeau, Olivier scored 2 goals, included the winning goal, and got 1 assist in a 5-3 victory.
Finally, with a total of 71 points (25 goals), Olivier Proulx is a serious candidate for the top scorer title. Only Jonathan Gagnon from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (76 points) and teammate Joël Perrault (75 points) are before Olivier. The Baie-Comeau Drakkar will play its next game this Thursday January 23 at 7:30pm against the Screaming Eagles in Cape Breton.
Other nominated players are : Frédéric Faucher from Remparts, Québec; Francis Lemieux from Saguenéens, Chicoutimi; Jonathan Ferland from Titan, Acadie-Bathurst.
The talented goaltender Drew MacIntyre of the Sherbrooke Castors is the defensive player of the week in the QMJHL. In 3 games, MacIntyre, who belongs to the Detroit Red Wings, got 3 wins, preserved a 1.99 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. Drew is named defensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Last Thursday in a 5-3 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Drew did 32 saves, 15 in the first period. Friday, in a 5-0 victory over the first position of the LeBel Conference, the Val-d’Or Foreurs, Drew stopped 24 shots and got his first shutout of the current season; his 6th in career. Yesterday against the Rocket in Montréal, the goalie, which is from Charlottetown, received 35 shots. The Sherbrooke Castors won 4-3 in overtime and MacIntyre got his 22nd victory of the season.
Finally, with 6 points last week, the Castors are only one point from the Val-d’Or Foreurs and the first position of the Robert-LeBel Conference. With only 132 goals allowed this season, the Castors are at the second rank in this matter, just behind the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (125 goals against). The Sherbrooke Castors will play their next game before their fans this Friday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
