OHL Player of the Week - Chris Bigras

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Colorado Avalanche prospect Chris Bigras of the Owen Sound Attack is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 21 with seven points in two games including two goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.
Bigras becomes the first defenceman to earn the award this season in a week highlighted by a five-point performance last Wednesday night against the Plymouth Whalers. In that contest, Bigras set a career-high and Attack franchise record for points by a defenceman with two goals and three assists claiming first star honours in the 6-3 victory. Then on Thursday night, Bigras picked up two assists despite an 8-7 overtime loss to the Niagara IceDogs extending his personal point-streak to a season-high five straight games. The Attack finished the first half of the OHL season with 38 points and currently stand in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.

Bigras, a 19-year-old from Elmvale, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Attack. Selected by the Avalanche in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Bigras is currently tied for second in OHL scoring among defencemen with 35 points in 30 games including a career-high 12 goals.
Also considered for the award this week was Buffalo Sabres prospect Brendan Lemieux of the Barrie Colts with six goals and one assist for seven points in two games, and San Jose Sharks prospect Dylan Sadowy of the Saginaw Spirit with four goals and one assist for five points in three games. In goal, Ottawa 67's rookie netminder Leo Lazarev posted a 2-1-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.33 and save percentage of .957.
