OHL Player of the Week - Alex DeBrincat

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that rookie forward Alex DeBrincat is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 8 after leading the league with nine points in three games scoring three goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.
DeBrincat becomes the fourth different Otter to earn the award this season after producing three multi-point games in three victories that helped secure the club's fourth Midwest Division title and first since 2002. On Wednesday night he scored a goal and two assists claiming second star honours in a 10-5 home win over the Barrie Colts, then helped the Otters pick up a road win in Barrie on Saturday with a pair of assists in the 5-3 victory over the Colts. His week wrapped up Sunday in North Bay with his third four-point game of the season scoring twice with two assists as second star of the 5-3 win over the Battalion.

DeBrincat, a 17-year-old from Detroit, MI, committed to the Otters last April after playing at Lake Forest Academy in Illinois. In his first OHL season, DeBrincat leads all rookies in scoring and ranks ninth overall in the league with 89 points including 43 goals and 46 assists in 62 games. He is eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft.
Also considered for the award this week was last week's winner Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Anthony DeAngelo of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with two goals and six assists for eight points in three games, and Calgary Flames prospect Sam Bennett of the Kingston Frontenacs with four goals and three assists for seven points in three games. In goal, Jack Flinn of the Owen Sound Attack made 97 saves in three games with a 1-2-0-0 record posting a goals-against-average of 1.35 and save percentage of .960.
