OHL: Physical Fritsche

Having played the minimum eight playoff games thanks to two straight sweeps, the London Knights find themselves exactly where they want to be right now: the Western Conference Final. In Game Four of the Knights/Spitfires series, Dan Fritsche's physical presence was hard to ignore and Trevor Kell's two-way play made an impression. Steve Downie was on the losing end, but he showed that his 5'10", 190-pound frame will not get pushed around.
Trevor Kell (Chi), RW, London

A defensive specialist who can still pot a few goals .. a smooth and fluid skater with a modest stride capable of quick bursts when needed.. not overly physical but can tie up his man and do a respectable job back-checking .. generally able to take his man out of the play .. strong on his skates with good balance and is the most effective along the boards .. plays cycle game well and is able to retrieve the puck down low .. charges the net frequently but lacks the strength to remain in danger zones .. game would benefit by getting his shots off more quickly and more often .. his ability to be successful at the next level will partially come with recognizing good scoring opportunities when he sees them, rather than looking for the perfect chance.
Danny Fritsche (Cbj), C, London
Big, strong forward who is almost impossible to move in front of the net .. a hard-nosed player who finishes checks and agitates players with his aggressive style .. effective in the cycle game as his large frame is able to contain players along the boards and bully them off the puck .. powerful stride but does not possess breakaway speed .. makes the most of his talented teammates on the PP .. has a tendency to take occasional shifts off .. needs to simplify his game and not play outside his offensive capabilities.
Daniel Girardi (Free Agent), D, London
This huge anchor on defence sees a ton of ice time .. not a flashy player but is still a presence on the ice .. plays a smart and conservative game .. throws puck high up in the air to clear the zone, reminiscent of Borje Salming .. not an overly strong skater but his large stride and big frame cover a lot of ice .. plays in all situations .. rarely lets the shots fly on the PP, preferring to dish it off to Rodney .. physically strong and able to contain players along the boards to stop them from generating scoring opportunities.
Steve Downie (2006), LW, Windsor
Cal O'ReillyClick An energy player with strong offensive capabilities and a very short temper .. small, stocky build who makes timely hits and prefers the physical side of the game .. best stick-handler on the team .. small frame allows him to weave in and around players effortlessly .. created many offensive chances and was the catalyst in most scoring chances .. makes creative moves to gain the line .. hand/eye coordination is top-notch .. batted the puck down at the line to create a partial breakaway .. decision-making needs to be quicker .. has short little bursts of quickness but is not a speedster.. tends to lose focus and composure at times .. was ejected from the game in the second frame after trying to attack Prust in the penalty box .. needs to focus more on playing his game and staying out of the sin bin. Here to view this Link. (2005), C, Windsor
Playmaker with tremendous vision .. can look shaky on his skates and his poor acceleration hurts him from joining rushes .. thrives in PP situations where he has more real estate and can evaluate his options .. anticipates and positions himself well in the offensive zone .. came out strong in the first period playing an aggressive fore-checking role, but seemed to lose confidence throughout the game and his work ethic disappeared .. unable to penetrate strong defence and was limited to the perimeter entire game .. continually physically man-handled .. unable to contain man on face offs or simply let player go, allowing his man to break to the front of the net with or without the puck and create scoring opportunities all night.
