OHL: Petes Keep Ryding On

The Peterborough Petes and Toronto St. Michael's Majors are clashing in what has already been an entertaining series. We've got notes on several Pete's players from Game One of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final series, which ended with a 5-4 Petes win in overtime. Included in this batch: recent Player of the Week Justin Peters, Jordan Stall, Daniel Ryder and more.
Jordan Morrison (Pit), C

Best all-around player on Pete's roster .. speed and keen anticipation skills create abundance of scoring opportunities .. uncanny ability to read plays and position himself accordingly .. not an overly fast skater but always keeps his feet moving .. nice lateral movement, which allows for smooth transition from offense to defense .. hard shot .. possesses creative on-ice vision .. completed picture perfect give-and-go for a goal .. able to stickhandle and pass at top speeds .. shows patience with the puck as he often hesitates for an extra second and forces the goalie to show him more net .. is trying to add the physical dimension to his game .. drops his shoulders and lowers his knees well to protect puck while attempting to break to the outside but limited strength prohibits him from being successful against bigger defensemen .. does not play cycle game very well and will need to bulk up considerably to be effective at next level.
Liam Reddox (Edm), C/LW
A highly skilled player who has an arsenal of moves and shots .. incredibly quick release .. does not hesitate to shoot from any angle .. an average skater, yet he generates adequate speed in a few strides .. has great one-on-one skills as evidenced in second period goal that lifted the spirits of the team and fans as he went inside out on Dale Good and scored on a follow-up to his initial shot .. very offensive-minded player who pays little attention to back-checking .. needs to show more intensity and overall consistency in his game.
Jordan Staal (2006), C
Could turn out to be best of the Staal brothers .. huge and very skilled forward who at 16 is already 6'3 and over 200 pounds .. first step is slow but long stride creates speed which is deceptive due to large frame .. balance in question and sometimes loses an edge when making tight turns or changing directions .. great straightaway speed .. plays PK due to ability to cover ice surface .. not overly physical but knows how to use size in his favour .. good along boards where he uses his size to beat players to loose pucks due to long reach and positioning .. had an impressive first round series production-wise and confidence is soaring as his ice time increases.
Daniel Ryder (2005), C/RW
A small forward who has quick feet and a quick shot .. speed is the name of his game, able to blow by defenders to the outside .. has extra gear to get into goal crease area .. skating skills enable him to get to loose pucks as well as cause many turnovers .. has soft hands and usually scores in close .. PK specialist is efficient on winning many face-offs cleanly .. his play without the puck needs some work and at times looked lost in defensive zone, unable to recognize or get to open ice for passes out of the zone .. not overly physical but stays with his man and ties him up with his stick.
Justin Peters (Car), G
A Pit Bull of a goalie with a mean streak .. a big goalie who covers as much net as he can even when down, extending legs across the crease .. agile, able to get up and down fast even though he is a stand-up goalie .. quick glove hand and great stick-handler acts at times as a third defenseman .. opposition wary of playing dump and chase game as he can clear the zone himself .. recognizes a change in play and reacts immediately, square to the shooter and challenging in the right situations .. poised and always ready for next shot .. made many timely saves for his team; saved 40 in losing effort .. plays aggressive .. gave face-washes to many players.
