OHL: Calvin Shine

Amidst all the rumours of John Tavares being traded, the Oshawa Generals have done well under coach DePiero and currently sit comfortably in the East Division. The Generals have had consistent efforts from many players but no one has emerged more than Calvin de Hann. A virtual unknown to start the season, he has risen to prominence with his calming play and offensive outburst. McKeen's profiles several Generals including de Hann and New York Rangers prospect, Michael Del Zotto.
Calvin deHaan (2009), D, Oshawa

Continues to shine with his commanding concept of the game and ability to play the game at his level .. he is able to slow down the pace of the game .. he is very calculated with his decision making and rarely makes a mistake .. he plays a very effortless game, as he is graceful and never finds himself out of position .. always involved in the play in some capacity whether it be on the offensive side or defensive side of the puck .. he is everywhere on the ice but is strategically placed at all times to make the best possible play .. he has a good shot from the point, it is not overpowering but he releases it quickly and keeps it low to the net .. he is not afraid to venture into the circles because he knows his skating will bail him out .. defensively, he could upgrade his foot speed but he does have a wide stride and can stay laterally with most players .. he does not lose many foot races and is very strong on his stick .. he sweep checks effectively and uses his reach to poke the puck off a blade .. he is not physical or intimidating by any stretch and will need to develop an edge to round out his game .. de Hann continues to improve with his steady, error-free game and also exhibits offensive ability and creativity with the puck .. his stock continues to climb as he establishes himself as one of the more sought after NHL draft-eligible defenders in the OHL.
David Corrente (2009), D, Oshawa
The apple does not fall from the tree as the younger Corrente plays a game identical to his brother Matthew, (NJ 1st round 30th 2006) .. a physically strong defender who relishes in administering a well-placed hit and clearing the crease of the opposition .. he is strong for his size (5-10, 170) and plays with a feistiness that intimidates the opposition .. balanced and strong on his skates he has good levels of speed .. he lacks puck rushing ability and gets into trouble when he attempts too .. he can get wandering if the play breaks up unexpectingly .. defensively is where his game is best suited, however at his size, he will have difficulty containing bigger pros at the NHL level.
Andy Andreoff (2009), C, Oshawa
Andreoff is making good use of his increased offensive minutes in the absence of John Tavares .. a stealthy scorer, he sneaks into plays and uses his above-average hand skills to find passing lanes .. more of a playmaker, Andreoff has improved his confidence when handling the puck dramatically and is now capable of making plays, unlike last season when he was in and out of the lineup .. he is a swift skater, who is agile and well-balanced .. he can take a hit and not lose stride .. is establishing himself more in traffic areas and must continue to do so to be successful .. cannot afford to be a perimeter player given his shot .. Andreoff will be a good OHL player and a potential over age player, however his skills may not be NHL-draft calibre.
Michael DelZotto (NYR), D, Oshawa
Del Zotto is enjoying another successful offensive season and should score double digits in goals for the third consecutive year .. he has utmost confidence in his offensive ability and plays with a bit of cockiness as a result .. he can spearhead a play, go coast-to-coast or make a solid first pass to trigger a breakout .. he generally prefers to carry the puck out of the zone .. he has good speed in both the straightaway and laterally .. he routinely QB's the PP and the PP is designed around his shot .. for as much as he brings to the offensive side of the table his defensive game has regressed .. his complete lack of tying up his man and simply standing still in the defensive zone is troublesome .. he has shown very little improvement away from the puck and considering he is a year older, he should be able to contain his man on sheer strength alone .. Del Zotto is high risk, high reward and will need years of AHL seasoning to improve his 5-5 play to be a NY Ranger.
