Nigel Dawes - WHL Player of the Week

Calgary - The Western Hockey League Player of the Week is forward Nigel Dawes of the Kootenay Ice. Dawes earned player of the week honours by recording a goal and eight points in three games versus the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL Western Conference Quarter-Finals of the 2003 WHL Playoffs.
On Tuesday, March 25th, Dawes recorded two assists, including the assist on the overtime game-winning goal that set a new WHL Playoff record for the longest game ever played. The game-winning goal was scored at the 16:56 mark of the fourth overtime period to defeat the visiting Kamloops Blazers 3-2 in Game 3 of the best-of-seven WHL Western Conference Quarter-Finals.

On Wednesday, March 26th, Dawes scored a goal and added an assist in a 4-1 home victory in Game 4 of the series. On Saturday, March 29th, Dawes recorded four assists in a 7-6 loss to the Blazers in game five of the series in Kamloops. The Ice have a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 is tonight in Cranbrook, B.C..
Dawes, an 18-year-old from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is eligible for the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
