NE Prep: Western Showdown

Two teams with playoff spots pretty much secured, the Salisbury vs. Avon game was a battle for the No. 1 seed in the West. Salisbury took advantage of an Avon-less Cam Atkinson and outplayed Avon for most of the game. In a game that had four potential picks for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, Salisbury won 4-2, and kept their winning streak alive. Salisbury heads into the playoffs looking to repeat as champions.
Nick Bonino (2007), F, Avon (SR)

Had two assists in the game .. looked like he really needed his wingman – Cam Atkinson to create more space and time for him .. with many scouts in attendance, Bonino had a chance to display his stickhandling ability and offensive instincts .. moved the puck around well and showed good vision .. looks to shoot every chance he gets, which is good because he has an incredible shot with a quick release .. relied on defensively, as he was trusted when the team was down two men .. skating seems to improve every game, but needs a few strides to get going .. provided Avon's only offense .. stats as of 2/21/07: (24-21-38-59).
Patrick Mullane (2008), F, Avon (SO)
Displays a tough, nasty edge to his game and crashes the net every chance he gets .. showed good poise with the puck and plays tough when shorthanded .. lost a key faceoff that led to a Salisbury goal, but it looked as if Avon's goalie Randy Wolcott could have had it .. reliable defensively .. needs to step-up his offensive game, as he will be relied upon next year for some goals .. stats as of 2/21/07: (24–8-10-18).
Ken Trentowski (2007), D, Avon (SR)
Senior captain has great poise and offensive instincts .. could be ranked with some of the other prep defenseman for this upcoming draft, but many scouts will want to see if he can control the backend at Yale the same way he does at Avon .. tremendous vision from the backend and moves the puck up the ice well .. his heart rate never seems to go up when pressured .. committed to Yale for 2007 .. stats as of 2/21/07: (24-3-14-17)
Lee Moffie (2008), D, Avon (SO)
Will not be long before he is contributing more offensively .. a reliable player in big games who always makes the safe play in the defensive zone with the puck .. strong in front of his own net and in the corners .. will need to be more careful about puck watching in the defensive zone .. out-muscled Paul Carey in front and broke up a good scoring chance .. moves the puck very well on the power play and his shots are specifically meant for tips and rebounds .. stats as of 2/21/07: (24-3-5-8).
Chris Wieland (2008), F, Avon (JR)
Had a goal to cut Salisbury's lead by one (2-1) .. his goal came on the power play when he found the rebound and snapped the puck quick under the blocker side .. had a quiet game after the goal and had limited scoring chances .. will need to pick-up his play come playoff time .. stats as of 2/21/07: (24-15-10-25)
Randy Wolcott (2007), G, Avon (SR)
Allowed two quick goals in the first period about one minute apart .. is good down low, but goes down too early .. splits time with fellow senior goalie Patrick Enloe, who currently has the better numbers, so Wolcott may not be the goalie that Avon runs with during the playoffs .. may take a year of juniors to attract more colleges .. stats as of 2/21/07: (12 games – 8-4-0, 339 shots faced, 28 goals-against).
Players to Watch: Patrick Enloe (2007), G (SR) – stats as of 2/21/07: (12 games – 10-0-2, 337 shots faced, 15 goals-against).
Brian Malchoff (2007), D (SR) – stats as of 2/21/07: (24-6-9-15) .. Bradley Peltz (2008), F (SO) - stats as of 2/21/07: (24-6-4-10).
Nick Jaskowiak (2007), D, Salisbury (SR)
An offensive defenseman who can really skate with the puck .. has a smooth skating stride with quick feet (similar skating style to former teammate Alex Biega – but not as fast) .. has the ability to shake checks with his speed and puck control .. had a quiet game offensively .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-0-9-9-plus-26 rating).
Kevin Quick (TB), D, Salisbury (SR)
Committed to Michigan for 2007 .. had a goal in the third period that put Salisbury up by two .. also had an assist on Joe Capuano's goal .. captain and a true leader on the ice .. has hockey smarts and is very tough to beat 1-on-1 .. showed a glimpse of his offensive instincts when he caught Avon looking at the puck and streaked in the back door sliding the puck low to the far side for the goal.. will never be described as fast, but will never lose a footrace .. solid in every aspect of the game .. can skate the puck up the ice and can beat you with the long outlet pass .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-1-9-10 - plus-22 rating).
Paul Carey (2007), F, Salisbury (JR)
Committed to Boston College for 2008 .. along with linemates Michael Biega and Brian Gibbons, Carey brought his "A" game and showed all the scouts in attendance why he is worthy of a late draft pick .. was pointless in the contest, but was effective every shift and was dangerous every time the puck touched his stick .. was back checking hard, but needs to keep his feet moving and stop relying on hooking the guy down the ice .. displayed a quick release from the slot and never stopped moving his feet in the offensive zone .. showed good poise with the puck and ability to find the open man .. plays the point on the powerplay, but only possesses an average shot from the backend .. has a dangerous nose for the net and sits back when a scrum ensues, waiting for a rebound opportunity .. really liked his game against Avon, but now he will need to bring that effort every game .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-14-10-24 - plus-19 rating)
Brian Gibbons (2007), F, Salisbury (SR)
Committed to Boston College for 2007 .. had an assist on Salisbury's second goal .. like his linemates, Biega and Carey, he had a solid game .. relied upon defensively as he got time on the penalty kill .. his speed and stickhandling skills are top notch.. has short, quick strides and a quick release on his shot .. moves the puck well and works hard along the boards .. took a bad penalty of hitting from behind and had to leave the game in the third period .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23 -7-15-22 – plus-22 rating).
Michael Biega (2007), F, Salisbury (SR)
Committed to Harvard for 2007 .. had an assist on Kevin Quick's third period goal .. finally saw a complete game from start to finish .. showed that he can be dangerous when flying down the wing with the puck .. does not have great speed, but has good offensive instincts and a good set of hands .. does not have a strong stride and needs to stretch out his stride more .. was vocal on the ice .. while shorthanded, created a 2-on-1 but fired the puck over the net .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-18-20-38 - plus-29 rating).
Anthony Borelli (2007), G, Salisbury (JR)
Small in stature (5-9, 155) and leaves a lot of room up top when he drops down .. has quick reflexes down low .. needs to work on his rebound control .. will not be relied upon to win games single handedly, but has put together a strong season again and could help this team secure another championship .. stats (as of 2/21/07): 23 games - 18-3-2, 519 shots faced, 31 goals-against and five shutouts).
Jack Clayman (2007), F, Salisbury (JR)
Has good size (6-2, 190) .. despite a few physical hits along the boards, he was invisible .. his stride does not have much power behind it .. do not think he registered a shot and was not a factor throughout the game .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-7-12-19 – plus-4 rating).
Adam Pawlick (2008), F, Salisbury (SO)
Had a goal in the first period (one minute after Salisbury got on the board) .. his goal is one that Avon's goalie (Wolcott) would like to have back .. has only decent speed, but has quick hands and quick decision-making abilities .. has a lot of potential and with all the seniors leaving, he could jump up from the third line to one of the top two lines .. stats as of 2/21/07: (23-5-6-11 – plus-7 rating).
Kyle Quick (2009), D, Salisbury (SO)
Going to be very similar to his older brother Kevin .. very reliable in all zones of the ice and although he only gets a few shifts per game, will soon be the backbone of the defense over the next few years .. the offense will come with more playing time and more time on the powerplay .. stats as of 2/21/07: 23-0-0-0 – plus-3 rating).
Players to Watch: Victor Heselton (2008), D, Salisbury (SO) - stats as of 2/21/07: (23-0-1-1 – plus-11 rating).
Joe Capuano (2007), F, Salisbury (SR) (Committed to Conn. College – Div. III) - stats as of 2/21/07: (23-9-11-20 – plus-17 rating).
