Leavitt Joins Broncos

The Swift Current Broncos are very happy to announce that nineteen-year-old forward Alex Leavitt has signed with the team. Leavitt, who hails from Edmonton, Alberta, played the last two seasons with the University of Wisconsin in the NCAA where he had career totals of 67 games played with 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points and 66 penalty minutes. Leavitt is 5’11, weighs 170 pounds, and can play either center or right wing. He is a product of Notre Dame Collegiate, where he not only played bantam and midget AAA, but also played one season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the Hounds. Leavitt was the SJHL Rookie of the Year in 2000/01, and led Notre Dame in scoring as a sixteen-year-old with 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 58 games and 56 penalty minutes. He also added 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points in 4 play-off games that season. He was a second round choice of the Broncos in the 1999 WHL Bantam Draft (29th overall), and was a team-mate of Bronco defenceman Ian White on the Canadian National Under-18 Team in 2001 at the Six Nations Cup in the Czech Republic.
“Obviously adding Alex into our mix of forwards adds tremendous depth,” remarked Broncos General Manager/Head Coach Brad McEwen, “We are excited about the possibility of him playing with our skilled guys to help our offence. If he has a good start with the Broncos, it may also put him in a position to potentially play with Canada at the World Juniors this season.”
“I’m very happy to be back in Canada to play hockey,” commented newest Bronco Alex Leavitt, “I have heard good things about the Broncos and their staff, and I am looking forward to contributing to the team’s success and to a great season.”
