Giant Prospects Times Two

David Musil (2011), D, Vancouver:
The object of many WHL team's desire during the off season after his family moved to the Vancouver area from the Czech Republic .. looks sturdy on his skates and already boasts the strength to stand a hard rushing opponent up at the blueline .. uses his stick and solid positioning to create turnovers .. pretty good at keeping forwards to the outside .. already showcases some grit in front of his own net and clears the crease better than most defencemen his age .. delivers a crisp first pass and generally puts some zip on his passes .. his vision is maturing .. partnered with veteran Nolan Toigo .. played on the penalty killing unit, but gets little time on the powerplay at this point in the season .. definitely a prospect to keep an eye on and has an excellent chance of following in his father's (Frank Musil) footsteps and one day making the NHL. Kevin Connauton (Van), D, Vancouver:
Played last season with Western Michigan (NCAA) and was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the third round, 83rd overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft .. the Canucks felt he would develop more under the tutelage of Giants' coach Don Hay .. the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Connauton is a terrific skater that must use his speed and mobility to make it to the next level .. boasts some power behind his shots and will move himself to change the shooting/passing lanes from the point .. displays nice poise with the puck on the powerplay .. can look a bit awkward when he gets involved in fistacuffs, but he's willing and besides that isn't really his type of game .. sports a solid slap shot that he is usually able to direct through traffic .. does a nice job of holding the puck in at the point .. must be more of a physical presence in high traffic areas .. along with being a regular on the powerplay he also kills penalties .. partnered with Ryan Funk.
