Edmonton Oil Kings win 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup

London, ON - The Canadian Hockey League is proud to congratulate the Edmonton Oil Kings for winning the 96th edition of the MasterCard Memorial Cup with a 6-3 victory over the Guelph Storm on Sunday evening.
Henrik Samuelsson scored two goals and three assists for the Oil Kings in Sunday's Championship Final and finished first in tournament scoring with eight points in five games. Edgars Kulda was named tournament MVP earning the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy with seven points including four goals.

"On behalf of the Canadian Hockey League and commissioners Ron Robison and Gilles Courteau, it's an honour to have the opportunity to congratulate and thank the unbelievable hosting of this event by the city of London and the London Knights hockey club," said CHL President David Branch. "To the event chairman Trevor Whiffen, event manager Gary Curgin, to the hundreds of volunteers, you outdid yourself from 2005. To the Edmonton Oil Kings, you are now bringing the MasterCard Memorial Cup back to the city of champions for the first time since 1966."
"The London Host Organizing Committee is grateful to volunteers in London who made sure that this event was a resounding success," said Host Committee Chair Trevor Whiffen. "Their efforts exceeded our expectations. We are proud of the event we staged, and congratulate all four teams on a job well done. We are also proud of the fact that we have raised over $100,000 for the Parkwood Veterans Care Facility here in London."
"On behalf of the Global Spectrum and Ovations team at Budweiser Gardens it was a great pleasure to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers and community leaders for the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup," said Brian Ohl, General Manager of Budweiser Gardens and Regional VP of Global Spectrum. "London is very fortunate to have so many leaders in police, tourism, media and throughout our private and public sector that you need to run a world class event. Lastly I would like to thank our host London Knights Hockey Club, who proved London to once again be an exceptional host city."
Following Sunday's Final, the Canadian Hockey League also announced the individual award winners and tournament all-stars as selected by NHL Central Scouting.
