CHL Player of the Week - Ivan Barbashev

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that St. Louis Blues prospect Ivan Barbashev of the Moncton Wildcats is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 19 after recording 11 points in four games scoring six goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-1.
Barbashev moved into second place in the QMJHL playoff scoring race helping the Wildcats comeback in their second round series against the Halifax Mooseheads. Trailing 2-0 in the series, Barbashev led the Wildcats offense in Game 3 last Tuesday night scoring two goals and one assist earning first star honours in the 4-3 victory, then tallied one assist in a 3-2 overtime win in Game 4 on Wednesday to even the series 2-2. In Game 5 on Friday night, Barbashev tied a team record with a six-point performance scoring four goals and two assists earning first star honours in the 7-3 victory. Barbashev picked up one assist on Sunday as the Wildcats suffered a 7-5 loss to the Mooseheads in Game 6 of the series setting up a decisive Game 7 in Moncton tonight.

Barbashev, a 19-year-old from Moscow, Russia, is playing in his third career QMJHL season with the Wildcats. Selected by the Blues in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft, he currently has 19 points including 11 goals in 11 playoff games after recording a career-high 95 points with 45 goals in 57 regular season games.
Also considered for the award this week was New York Islanders prospect Michael Dal Colle who scored two goals and five assists for seven points in three games helping the Oshawa Generals advance to the OHL's Eastern Conference Final with a five-game series win over the Niagara IceDogs. In the WHL, Winnipeg Jets prospect Josh Morrissey scored two goals and three assists for five points in one game helping the Kelowna Rockets advance to the Western Conference Final with a five-game series win over the Victoria Royals.
