CHL Goalie of the Week - Taran Kozun

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Taran Kozun of the Seattle Thunderbirds is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 8 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .955.
Kozun made 64 saves in a pair of victories for the Thunderbirds who currently stand third in the WHL's U.S Division with 60 points. On Friday night against Portland, Kozun stopped 26 shots backstopping the Thunderbirds to a 6-3 win and putting an end to the Winterhawks eight-game winning streak. Then on Saturday, Kozun stopped all 38 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season earning first star honours in a 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants.

Kozun, a 20-year-old from Nipawin, SK, is playing in his fourth WHL season and second with the Thunderbirds. He currently carries a 24-14-3-3 record and holds the league's lowest goals-against-average with a mark of 2.30 along with the third best save percentage at .917.
Also considered for the award this week were past winners in Calgary Flames prospect Mason McDonald of the Charlottetown Islanders and Dallas Stars prospect Brent Moran of the Niagara IceDogs. McDonald went 2-1-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 2.69 and save percentage of .929, while Moran went 3-0-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.61 and save percentage of .948.
