CHL Goalie of the Week - Philippe Desrosiers

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Dallas Stars prospect Philippe Desrosiers of the Rimouski Oceanic is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending May 18 after posting a 2-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.03 and save percentage of .964.
Desrosiers backstopped the Oceanic to their third President Cup victory and first since 2005 following a seven-game series against the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL Final. In Game 6 of the series on Sunday afternoon, Desrosiers entered the game early in the second period with the Oceanic trailing 3-1 and would stop six of seven shots faced to help his team overcome a three-goal deficit to even the series with a 5-4 overtime victory. Desrosiers got the start between the pipes in Game 7 on Monday night and was spectacular earning second star honours with 47 saves in the 2-1 double overtime victory on home ice.

Desrosiers, a 19-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, QC, just completed his third full QMJHL season with the Oceanic. A second round pick of the Stars in the 2013 NHL Draft, Desrosiers earned the Jacques Plante Trophy this season with the QMJHL's best goals-against-average posting a mark of 2.50. During the 2015 Playoffs, he carried a 5-3 record with a goals-against-average of 2.48 and save percentage of .910.
Also considered for the award this week was Jackson Whistle who backstopped the Kelowna Rockets to a WHL Championship winning the Ed Chynoweth Cup in a four-game series win over the Brandon Wheat Kings posting two straight victories last week including one shutout with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .938. In the OHL, Ken Appleby backstopped the Oshawa Generals to a Robertson Cup title with a five-game series win over the Erie Otters going 2-1 in the final three games with a goals-against-average of 3.56 and save percentage of .882.
