CHL Goalie of the Week - Mason McDonald

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Calgary Flames prospect Mason McDonald of the Carlottetown Islanders is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 18 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .971.
McDonald stopped 67 shots in a pair of victories for the Islanders extending his personal streak to five-straight games without a regulation loss and helping his club maintain a hold on ninth place in the overall QMJHL standings with 50 points. McDonald recorded his first shutout of the season and earned first star honours on Friday night with 31 saves in a 2-0 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix, then stopped 36 shots including 14 in the third period on Sunday in a 3-2 win over the Quebec Remparts.

McDonald, an 18-year-old from Halifax, NS, is playing in his third career QMJHL season and first full season with the Islanders after joining the club midway through last season from the Acadie-Bathurt Titan. Selected by the Flames in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft, McDonald carries a record of 19-14-0-3 with a goals-against-average of 2.99 which ranks sixth in the QMJHL and a save percentage of .904 which is third best in the league.
Also considered for the award was 2015 NHL Draft prospect Michael McNiven of the Owen Sound Attack who will compete with Team Cherry in the 2015 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game after posting a 2-0-0-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .970, and Connor Ingram of the Kamloops Blazers who earned first star honours in a pair of victories including a shutout win with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .968.
