CHL Goalie of the Week - Evan Cormier

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that rookie Evan Cormier of the Saginaw Spirit is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 25 after posting a 1-1-0-0 record with a shutout victory along with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .974.
Cormier stopped an impressive 75 shots in two games last week highlighted by a career-high 46-save performance on Thursday night against the North Bay Battalion. In that contest, Cormier earned first star honours against his former team with his third shutout of the season in the 3-0 road victory. His week also included a 29-save effort despite a 3-1 loss to the Barrie Colts on Sunday.

Cormier, a 17-year-old from Bowmanville, ON, is playing in his first full OHL season. Acquired by the Spirit from the Battalion earlier this month, Cormier carries a 2-3-0-0 record with a 3.01 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage with his new club. In 14 games played this season he has three shutouts with a goals-against-average of 2.72 and save percentage of .904.
Also considered for the award this week was Mack Shields of the Calgary Hitmen who went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .957, and Reilly Pickard of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan who went 1-1-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.52 and save percentage of .957.
