CHL Goalie of the Week - Brandon Halverson

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that New York Rangers prospect Brandon Halverson of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 15 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .965.
Halverson made 82 saves in three games last week for the Greyhounds who became the first OHL Western Conference team to clinch a berth in the playoffs. Last Wednesday night he made 31 saves as part of a 5-2 win over the Sarnia Sting, then stopped 18 shots on Friday in a 7-1 road win over the Saginaw Spirit. Halverson then picked up his third shutout of the season on Saturday stopping all 33 shots he faced in a 5-0 win over the Plymouth Whalers. So far this week Halverson has continued his strong play between the pipes posting a second straight shutout victory making 30 saves as first star of a Family Day matinee against the Sting on Monday clinching the West Division title for the Hounds.

Halverson, an 18-year-old from Traverse City, MI, is playing in his second OHL season with the Greyhounds. Selected by the Rangers in the second round of the 2014 NHL Draft, he currently carries a 30-4-0-2 record with four shutouts, along with a goals-against-average of 2.70 and save percentage of .913.
Also considered for the award this week was rookie Carter Hart of the Everett Silvertips with a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 0.96 and save percentage of .958, and Marvin Cupper of the Shawinigan Cataractes with a 3-0-0-0 record posting a goals-against-average of 2.67 and save percentage of .931.
