CHL: 2004-05 Award Winners

London ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced the CHL Award Winners for the 2004-05 season.

Reebok CHL Player of the Year / Canada Post Cup / CGC Sheetrock Top Scorer - Sidney Crosby, Rimouski Oceanic

Sidney Crosby won his second consecutive CHL scoring title after scoring 66 goals and 66 102 assists for 168 points in 62 regular season games. He was also the QMJHL's top scorer in the playoffs with 14 goals and 31 points in 13 games to help the Oceanic claim the QMJHL championship for the second time in the past six seasons. Crosby, a member of Canada's gold medal winning national junior team, is the top rated prospect for the next NHL Entry Draft and is currently participating in the MasterCard Memorial Cup.

NAPA Rookie of the Year - Benoit Pouliot, Sudbury Wolves

Benoit Pouliot led all OHL rookies with 29 goals and 38 assists for 67 points in 67 games this season. The Ottawa native played in the OHL leg of the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge as well as the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Vancouver. He is the OHL's top-rated prospect for the next NHL Entry Draft.

MasterCard Defenceman of the Year - Danny Syvret, London Knights

Knights' captain Danny Syvret was the second highest scoring defenceman in the OHL this season with 23 goals and 69 points in 62 games. He led all CHL defencemen with a plus-70 plus/minus rating. Syvret was also a member of Canada's gold medal winning national junior team.

ADT Goaltender of the Year - Jeff Glass, Kootenay Ice

Jeff Glass posted a 34-11-5 record with a 1.76 goals against average, .932 save percentage and eight shutouts in 51 games with the Ice this season. The 19-year-old from Cochrane, AB backstopped Canada's junior team in Grand Forks, ND and the Ice to the WHL championship series.

Subway Scholastic Player of the Year - Gilbert Brule, Vancouver Giants

In addition to a tremendous season on the ice during which Gilbert Brule led the Vancouver Giants in scoring with 39 goals and 48 assists for 87 points in 70 games, the 18-year-old Vancouver native took more credits than any other player in the Western Hockey League. Brule is also a top prospect for the next NHL Entry Draft.

Bell Sportsman of the Year - Jeff Carter, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds

Jeff Carter led the Greyhounds in scoring again this season with 34 goals and 40 assists for 74 points while amassing 40 minutes in penalties in 55 games. The 20-year-old London native was an all-star for the second straight year at the World Juniors and was a first round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003.

Home Hardware Humanitarian Player of the Year - Colin Fraser, Red Deer Rebels

Colin Fraser continued his commitment to being a strong figure in the community as well as on the ice. The Rebel's captain, Fraser was heavily involved with guiding minor hockey players and kids in school about the value of positive influences. He was involved in a program that helped educate students in Red Deer about the effects of drugs and the importance of making a commitment to education.
