Bombs Over Battalion

The Brampton Battalion hosted the Sudbury Wolves at the Powerade Center but let down the crowd by being shutout by the visitors 3-0. It was a fairly uninspired effort while still not playing with the ailing Cody Hodgson and some deflationary goals throughout the game. Brampton entered the third period down 2-0, before a third goal sealed the effort and deflated them through the rest of the way. McKeen's correspondent Gus Katsaros was there to take notes on several Brampton Battalion players.
Philip Lane (2010), RW, Brampton

A keen sense of positioning and dangle that didn't come out much in this game .. keeps his stick at waist height while skating .. sometimes hurried a shot with other options .. peripheral game, doesn't pay as much attention to the defensive side .. jumped in transition early from the zone on multiple occasions, sometimes in blind anticipation and had to curl back when the play didn't materialize .. seemed to like coasting on the perimeter, but wasn't afraid to get physical, seemingly showing selective bravery .. not afraid to get physical along the boards using size and strength very well, which will improve as he adds some muscle to his frame .. started off on the lower line but promoted in the third period due to need for goals .. ran a little hot and cold overall, but showed some distinct dangling and offensive talent while playing a perimeter game.
Sam Carrick (2010), C, Brampton
Lost the opening faceoff .. misses first-step quickness and isn't the most eloquent skater, plodding and lumbering and stops moving his feet .. loses balance in turns and doesn't generate enough speed for the effort put forth into stride .. struggles moving opponents with hits and often lost his balance with attempts at physicality .. patient, shifty with a quick release, getting good positioning in the offensive zone .. finds open space with a good stick on the ice .. relies on smart positioning .. tricky shot, hard and low off the rush .. small wind up for the velocity he gets .. can give up early on some broken plays while springing into action anticipating an offensive foray .. will go to the front of the net on the powerplay as well as most times at even strength.
Domenic Alberga (2010), C, Brampton
Was guilty of bunching up with players early on and didn't get into his own skating lanes .. skates with his stick at waist height into the zone almost to counter balance skating, and keeps it there driving to the net .. needs better stick prep .. doesn't garner much speed from a wide and balanced horseshoe stride, but good footwork and balance, with ability to change direction fast and is always moving his feet, rarely remaining stationary .. seemed content to sticking on the outer perimeter with timely jaunts into the dirty areas of the ice, but has good forechecking inspiration down low most of the time .. didn't display much offensive talent in this game, but had fast hands when stickhandling with glimpses of good shooting and offensive ability.
Matt Clark (Ana), D, Brampton
Powerplay puck rusher .. fluid skater that gets good speed off start up, but will stop moving his feet when at the speed of the play, doesn't exert more .. good vision and decent pointshot, although he doesn't disguise his intentions very well and easily read from the point .. unspectacular outing .. seems a little lazy at times, and not in tune with the speed/pace of the game .. not moving his feet .. not using options in the best possible manner.. instead of clearing the zone, twice, he made two ill-advised passes that were unnecessary and intercepted with pressure from each leading to scoring chances .. was beaten easily by outside speed and hauled down his man .. sense of urgency was much more heightened in the third period than in the previous two combined where he jumped at the play, anticipating better, considering the Battalion was already down 2-0.
Patrick Killeen (Pit), G, Brampton
Tall and lanky in great shape and good form in his crouch .. strong butterfly goalie with first reaction to drop to his knees .. very athletic .. plays a little deep in the crease at times and would benefit from coming out a bit to cut the angle a little better .. fooled on the second goal, as it floated by without so much as a swipe until the puck had already passed him from suspect amount of traffic in front .. let in a third goal as a back-breaker on a bad shot on the second shot-on-goal he faced in the third period .. the goal deflated the club, which showed on the scoreboard and then an uninspired effort the rest of the way.
