BCHL: Spencer For Hire

Sean Robertson (2009), D, Victoria
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defenceman looks a bit sluggish at first glance and will get caught flatfooted if attacked with speed .. partnered with veteran Lee Baldwin .. needs to get a better jump out of the blocks .. can be pressured in to haphazardly moving the puck .. played on both special teams .. pinches in when he sees an opportunity, however lacks the playmaking ability or the vision to make top level plays .. it is imperative that Robertson add some muscle and more importantly use to be more of a physical presence in front of his own net .. keeps his shot low from the point, but won't strike fear in the opposition goalies with his mediocre slap shot .. communicates with his teammates .. doesn't read and react to the play quick enough and thus is sometimes out of position when there is a scoring opportunity against .. needs to keep his feet moving and get out of the habit of standing around .. overall skating, especially his mobility and transitioning from defence to offence or vice versa is average at best. (4gp, 0-2-2)

Alexandre Peck (2009), G, Victoria
Moves the puck effectively, although doesn't always handle it as smoothly as one would like .. appears a tad shaky with his angles .. communicates well with his defence .. needs to get meaner in his crease and fight harder to maintain ownership of his crease .. good speed with his blocker .. rebound control needs work as he sometimes allows the puck to end up in prime scoring areas .. should work on getting back to his feet faster and must also work on his lateral movement as he's not the most agile goalie around .. boasts some of the tools that will get him a second look and being 6-foot-4 won't hurt his draft stock, still there is much work to be done before he's draft ready. (GAA 3.16, Sv% 90.57)
Derek Lee (2009), C, Victoria
Is committed to Wisconsin for next season .. pint-sized pivot had to be bitterly disappointed about not being drafted last season especially for a player that was on the draft radar early in the campaign only to fall completely off the map by the end .. plays on both special teams and looks revitalized in a playmaking/pest role with the Grizzlies under Coach Geoff Courtnall .. at his best when he's moving his feet and using his speed and vision to open up space for himself and his linemates .. wouldn't be the first player from the BCHL to make good on a second chance and a fresh start and get himself drafted. (4gp, 3-2-5)
Justin Courtnall (TB), LW, Victoria
Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick showcased good chemistry on the top line with Myles MacRae and Derek Lee .. boasts a real nice burst out of the blocks and moves real well when he wants to .. at his best when he displays some sandpaper and takes the body using his splendid skating ability .. comes back and helps out on defence, although is far from a defensive specialist .. will use his speed and mobility to close down passing/shooting lanes .. demonstrates good vision in the offensive zone .. blessed with a ton of ice time in all situations including both special teams .. not a perimeter player, yet doesn't look like he'll be able to play with much physicality at the next level .. still a project, although there is some upside there .. sports the top end speed to beat a defender on the outside and a willingness to take the puck to the net. (4gp, 0-3-3)
Madison Dias (2011), RW, Victoria
Listed at 6-foot-0, 165-pounds, the 15-year-old winger moves his feet real well and has splendid jump out of the gates .. uses his body reasonably well given his youth to hold off stick checkers .. showcases patience with the puck .. picks up the trailing forward .. will put his body in harm's way to make a play and not scared to go to the net.. played on a line with Cam Reid and Dustin Mowrey .. definitely a player to keep an eye on in the next few seasons (4gp, 0-1-1)
Cam Reid (2009), C, Victoria
One of the Grizzlies most highly regarded prospects is listed at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds .. supports the puckcarrier .. showed some tenacity fighting for the puck behind the net .. centered a line with Madison Dias and Dustin Mowrey .. must keep his feet moving as he sometimes even looks a bit lazy .. has some vision and likes to try and use the give and go as his team drives the net .. not overly physical .. blessed with pretty good imagination and reads the play well .. skates well, but lacks an elite gear .. was a regular on the powerplay. (4gp, 2-1-3)
Spencer Bennett (2009), RW, Surrey
Showcases some grit to his game and boasts nice size at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds .. goes to the net without the puck .. uses his elite speed to get in quickly on the forecheck .. a player to keep an eye on .. played on a line with Brennan Strang and Adam Hartley .. already starting to use his size to his benefit .. Comes back real hard on the powerplay .. is off to a poor start offensively with only one point in his first four games, but the points should come and so should the attention. (4gp, 1-0-1)
Matt Cronin (2010), D, Surrey
Affiliate player is being brought along slowly with the Eagles .. the Langley native is listed at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds .. will take a hit to make a play and looks fairly sturdy on his skates .. a player to keep an eye on.
