BCHL: Raising Cain

Luke Cain of Thunder Bay, Ontario is trying his best to make a name for himself playing in the BCHL and possibly get drafted. However, at this time the odds of hearing his name called on draft day will be long. We have notes from a recent game featuring Cain and some of his Salmon Arm teammates.

Slick skating blueliner is making people take notice .. partnered with Robbie Rodgers .. made a nice spin move behind his own net to allude the forechecker .. excellent straightway speed and mobility .. moves the puck effectively while on the power play .. good breakout passer .. displays superb anticipation, especially in his own zone .. will need to fill out his frame a bit to compete better at the next level.
Luke Cain (2005), RW
Not quite ready for prime time and is likely still a long shot for the draft .. displayed nice breakaway speed breaking down the wing and getting a good chance on net .. played on a line with Darcy Zajac and Mark Santorelli .. plays on the penalty-kill .. looked a bit lost killing a penalty .. needs to work harder away from the puck or at the very least put in a more consistent effort in this area .. took a roughing penalty in which he displayed a lack of discipline .. solid on his skates and takes a hit to make a play.
Julian Marcuzzi (2005), D
Maturing young blueliner tried to stand up a puck carrier at the Salmon Arm blueline and was beaten without getting much of a body on the puck carrier .. partners alongside Jesse Griffith .. received a two minute pim after the whistle .. played on the powerplay and penatly-kill .. allowed his man to elude the check and get to the net .. needs to communicate better with his defensive partner .. can be rushed in to low percentage plays in this own zone .. good first jump from his first few steps.
Ben Street (2005), C
Very small .. wears the A .. blindly threw a back pass towards the net that was easily intercepted uses his exceptional speed and mobility to put pressure on the forecheck .. takes the pass with ease and at full speed .. has some zip to his slap shot .. doesn't have the strength to be a force physically in traffic, but he will drive to the crease .. once again beat the checkers with his blazing speed .. nice stick handler with the ability to beat a one-on-one .. keeps his feet moving even on contact and will try and use the body (with little effect) .. took the puck at center and went through everybody and beat the goalie upstairs on a marvelous deke .. has a real nose for the net.
