BCHL: Anderson MacIntyre School Opposition

The Cowichan Valley Capitals find themselves in fourth spot in the Island Division of the BCHL, but with a game in hand and only five points back they are close enough to make a run at the Victoria Salsa. We have notes on some of their players including Jeff Anderson & Cam MacIntyre who have committed to Yale and Princeton respectively. We also take a look at a few of their teammates including Winston DayChief, Cody Adams, Justin Zazula and Brian Kang.
Winston DayChief (2006), RW

Produced 17 points (9-8-17) in his first 35 games .. boasts nice mobility and does a solid job closing passing lanes .. must work on building up his strength as he lacks a physical presence .. showed perseverance going to the front of the net and banging away until he found the twine .. slap shot doesn't stand out .. saw some time on the powerplay .. prone to waiting for the puck to get to him when he should be more proactive .. doesn't get much accomplished on most shifts and at this time is more of a project than a prospect.
Jeff Anderson (2006), LW
Wears the A and has committed to Yale for next season .. in his first 33 games has 16 points (8-8-16) .. delivers tape-to-tape passes crisply .. communicates well with his linemates .. was the last guy to leave the ice after warm-up .. competes in traffic, although isn't a force physically .. plays on both the PK and PP .. displays an awareness to the impending play .. thanks to very good overall speed and mobility he gets in early on the forecheck and closes down passing lanes .. works well along the boards and protects the puck with his body .. uses the angles to cut off puckcarriers and chooses to close the lane instead of going for a big hit .. will park himself in front for scoring chances .. boasts nice hand-eye coordination .. shows a willingness to gain the zone by either carrying it or the good old dump and chase .. appears to be a much better pro prospect than any of his teammates.
Cody Adams (2007), D
Big bodied, blueliner isn't counted on to add much in the offensive zone, which is good because he has only four assists after 31 games .. moves fairly well and looks solid containing the man on the one-on-one .. saw some time on the penalty-kill .. has the overall speed and mobility to keep the puckcarrier to the outside .. like many youngsters on defense he can be guilty of being memorized by the puck .. needs to make the high percentage play when handling the puck as he is prone to turnovers under pressure .. blessed with a nice amount of grit and works hard, however he's still learning the game.
Cam MacIntyre (FA), RW
Veteran winger proudly wears the C for the Capitals .. has committed to Princeton for the 2006-07 season .. easily leads the team in goals (22), assists (24) and points (46) after 34 games played .. looks solid on his skates .. can find the holes on a goalie .. might not be the fastest skater, but moves extremely well .. lacks the foot speed out of the blocks necessary to be dominant at the next level .. has the look and poise of a leader .. conscientious defensively .. boasts a stinging slap shot and wrist shot, however needs to work on getting them away quicker .. displays imagination and vision offensively and the touch to make things happen at the Junior level .. finishes his checks and conversely knows how to take a hit and still hold on to the puck .. supports the defense and comes all the way back .. is a mainstay on both the powerplay and penalty-killing units.
Justin Zazula (2006), LW
Rookie winger only has eight points (3-5-8) after 27 games .. moves extremely well while stickhandling and has the mobility to beat a defender on the inside .. needs to get stronger with or without the puck as he can be wrapped up a bit too easily .. boasts splendid acceleration and overall skating ability .. not ready to dominate at this level, let alone the next one.
Brian Kang (2006), RW
Displays terrific mobility and acceleration and communicates nicely with his linemates .. in 21 fewer games he has already surpassed his point total of last season with eight (4-4-8) .. jumps on loose pucks quickly .. needs to maintain discipline at all times as he has been known to take the odd unsportsmanlike penalty after the whistle .. with patience he could develop in to a decent prospect, but still has much work ahead of him.
