2005 draft: Maritime Standouts

Justin Saulnier, C
Got off to a slow start in his rookie year in the QMJHL, playing in a mainly physical role .. instantly gained the coach’s confidence at the Under-17’s as a member of Team Atlantic .. was Team Atlantic’s most consistent and potent offensive contributor .. came back to the Mooseheads after the Christmas break as a stronger, more aggressive finisher .. has good speed and excellent hands around the net .. complements his linemates (Jan Steber, Kenzie Sheppard) well and was by far the most consistent of the three after Christmas.

Kenzie Sheppard, LW
Was worn out after Christmas due to a couple of factors; a longer schedule than he was used to, combined with his reckless, physical style tired him quickly .. tough as nails and plays with lots of fire .. has a cannon of a shot; very accurate .. soft hands and good puck carrying skills .. has the potential to be the total package, but needs to smarten up .. too impulsive and emotional for his own good .. takes ridiculous penalties at times .. had to be restrained during a brawl against Team Russia at the Under-17’s .. does not channel frustration well .. uninspired at times during season .. must improve consistency.
Chad Denny, D
Stay-at-home defender likes the rough stuff .. put up good numbers for a rookie defender in the ‘Q’ .. pretty rough with the puck .. skating is subpar .. won’t rush; prefers getting rid of the puck before he hits his own blueline .. needs to shake off certain habits; some bad retaliations at the Under-17’s for Team Atlantic .. must improve conditioning.
