Ron Hainsey, Mtl, D, (Rating: 3.0), Hamilton (AHL) - After failing to impress during a six-week audition to open the season, former UMass-Lowell All-American was demoted to Hamilton, where he made steady gains in his overall defensive play, while duplicating his freshman pro totals from `01-2 .. The mobile, offensively-skilled Hainsey thrives on the power play as he exploits his superb lateral agility to create space for his deft passing and cannon wristshot, but continues to be plagued by lapses in urgency and judgment, and seldom takes advantage of his imposing size and reach .. Needs to make a greater physical commitment to warrant a full-time promotion.
Josh Harding, Min, G, (Rating: 3.5), Houston (AHL) - Reigning WHL Player-of-the-Year needed just over two months to record a franchise-record five shutouts after arriving in January's blockbuster deal from Regina, and then carried the Wheat Kings to a upset opening-round win over his old club, only to fall quietly to Medicine Hat .. A poised, right-catching goalie with uncanny reflexes and athleticism, Harding plays an unpredictable hybrid style backed by excellent positional sense and athleticism, and has a knack for elevating his play at key times in a game .. Must continue to improve his strength and consistency.
Darren Haydar, Nsh, RW, (Rating: 3.5), Milwaukee (AHL) - The reigning 'AHL Rookie of the Year' continued to show great maturity and consistency as a sophomore, and was the creative force in Milwaukee's Calder Cup triumph, leading the playoffs in both goals and points (22-11-15-26, plus-8) .. Not big, strong nor particularly fleet of foot, Haydar is, however, a wise and slippery player with exceptional body and arm positioning, and generates scoring chances using his sharp instincts and uncanny ability to get a stick on loose pucks .. Diminutive star deserves a chance as he continues to prove the skeptics wrong.
Josh Hennessy, SJ, C, (Rating: 3.0), Quebec (QMJHL) - The stock of gifted Remparts captain continued to soar after tying for fifth in the league with a career-high 40 goals, despite missing 11 games, including eight to a separated shoulder (Feb), and being honoured as the QMJHL's Humanitarian of the Year .. A hard-working, well-rounded pivot with exceptional vision, Hennessy boasts a quick, sneaky wristshot, nice fluidity in his movements, and a deceptive change of pace, and is steadily gaining better agility and speed as his overall strength improves .. No reason to rush prized prospect.
Adam Henrich, TB, LW, (Rating: 2.5), Springfield (AHL) - It appeared that colossal second-rounder would deliver a colossal fourth year with the Battalion after a dominating start (10-8-9-17), but quickly cooled off and failed for the crack the 30-goal mark for the first time in three seasons .. Henrich can blow by defenders using his massive wingspan and huge, languid stride, and also possesses fine finesse skills including a quick, powerful shot, however, he needs to keep adding more of an edge to his game, especially in the defensive zone where he appears disinterested at times .. Intriguing prospect needs seasoning to work on strength and consistency issues.
Chris Higgins, Mtl, C, (Rating: 3.5), Hamilton (AHL) - Armed with a 12-minute taste of the NHL to begin the season, Yale All-American progressed in leaps and bounds during his pro debut with the Bulldogs to finish sixth in AHL rookie scoring .. A smart, strong-skating forward with excellent poise and instincts, Higgins fares well in traffic, despite not having daunting size, and, powered by a deceptive change of pace, is superb at creating space for his quick, powerful shot .. Impressive second-half AHL numbers (37-14-16-30, plus-11) tempered somewhat by a team-worst minus-7 in the playoffs (10-3-2-5).
Andreas Holmqvist, TB, D, (Rating: 2.5), Springfield (AHL) - The pace was too much for lanky Swedish second-rounder, who bombed at his first North American camp, and was exiled to the ECHL where he finished third on the Ice Pilots with 33 assists, while making significant gains in his overall defensive play .. A smooth and mobile puckmover, Holmqvist boasts impressive creativity and finesse skills, including a potent shot, but must bulk up his imposing frame and develop a more consistent physical presence, especially around his own crease .. Ready for AHL test.
Jiri Hudler, Det, C, (Rating: 3.0), Grand Rapids (AHL) - Czech teenager started in Detroit following an impressive preseason (7-3-2-5), but spent the bulk of his North American debut in Grand Rapids, where he produced the league's longest point streak of the season with 18 points in 12 games, sandwiched around a disappointing World Junior tournament .. A crafty, all-seeing playmaker and tricky puckhandler, Hudler may be pint-sized, but is a sneaky skater with a special feel for the game and a knack for masking his intensions, albeit his defensive skills still need polish .. Progress was tempered by attitude and maturity issues, though he did leave a strong final impression by leading the Griffins in playoff scoring (4-1-5-6).
Ivan Huml, Bos, LW, (Rating: 2.0), TBD - Enigmatic Czech winger brooded after being demoted to Providence a week into the season, and, aside from a surge in December that earned a two-week call-up to Boston, continued to underachieve, finally being relegated to the pressbox down the stretch .. A sneaky skater with strong puck skills and a quick release, Huml has added muscle and shown an ability to grind in traffic, however, he suffers inexplicable lapses in urgency and bravery, and only sporadically plays with the necessary edge away from the puck .. On the ropes.
Andrew Hutchinson, Nsh, D, (Rating: 2.5), Milwaukee (AHL) - Former MSU All-American made significant in-roads as a sophomore pro, impressing during his six NHL call-ups, and then stepping up with an outstanding playoff performance in which he led all defenseman in scoring (22-5-11-16, plus-3) .. A stable, two-way rearguard who plays an efficient, 'heads-up' game, Hutchinson is very adept at moving diagonally and opening up shooting lanes from the point for his hard, low shot, and has continued to gain confidence in his puckcarrying and physical play .. Should advance.
