Ben Eager, Phi, LW, (Rating: 2.5), Philadelphia (AHL) - Acquired from Phoenix in the Mike Comrie deal, rugged first-rounder steamrolled to career highs and led the Generals in penalty minutes for a third consecutive season .. A mean, mobile hitting machine, Eager eats up the ice with powerful strides and ruthlessly patrols the boards looking to dish out full-body blasts, but must keep honing his finesse skills and his decision-making in the offensive zone as he does a lot of wasteful skating .. Untamed power forward with NHL speed and passion.
Ben Eaves, Pit, C, (Rating: 2.5), Wilkes-Barre (AHL) - Gutsy senior captain was leading the Eagles in scoring (19-6-20-26) when he sustained a fractured kneecap in January (missed 15 games), but rebounded to steer Boston College through to the Frozen Four, highlighted by a brilliant overtime goal in the regional finals .. A gifted, pint-size playmaker, Eaves is a tenacious and creative dynamo blessed with extraordinary vision and an ability to outfox bigger opponents by exploiting his strong, balanced skating and superb hand-eye coordination .. Charismatic leader continues to defy the odds.
Patrick Eaves, Ott, LW, (Rating: 3.5), Boston College (HE) - Spirited first-rounder rebounded from an ill-fated freshman debut to flourish on a potent line with older brother Ben and sniper Tony Voce, as he finished second on the Eagles with 18 goals and was arguably the team's best forward during their Frozen Four run .. The creative and highly-skilled Eaves is an intelligent skater who effectively negotiates traffic and knows how to set up his quick, deadly-accurate shot, and, though undersized, plays with an emotional edge that earns plenty of over-aggression fouls (led the club with 66 PIM's) .. Matured in leaps and bounds last season.
Mike Egener, TB, D, (Rating: 3.0), Springfield (AHL) - Uncompromising second-rounder overcame a poor camp and a rocky start to his fourth WHL campaign to emerge as a blueline stalwart for the Hitmen, not to mention the franchise's all-time penalty-minute leader .. A muscular, combative crease-clearer, Egener is a prickly one-on-one obstacle as he always looks to initiate body contact, and is also a strong, rangy skater with decent hands and a powerful shot, though he struggles to reign in his emotions at times, which leads to needless penalties .. Tough hombre looks to make a better account of himself at his second NHL camp.
Christian Ehrhoff, SJ, D, (Rating: 3.5), Cleveland (AHL) - Slick German fourth-rounder made impressive strides during his North American debut, spending much of the season in the NHL, where he was used selectively at even strength, but extensively on the power play, before being dispatched to the minors at the trade deadline .. A fast, fluid skater and talented puckmover, Ehrhoff excels at the transition game and on the power play due to a booming slapshot that he keeps low and on target, but must continue to refine his one-on-one play and his defensive-zone intensity .. Likely needs another full season to put it all together
Dan Ellis, Dal, G, (Rating: 3.0), Hamilton (AHL) - Rebounding from a miserable collegiate farewell, Nebraska-Omaha star made plenty of noise in a pro debut that was highlighted by a well-earned victory in his first-ever NHL start in February, and a 'tour-de-force' performance in the ECHL playoffs, carrying the Idaho Steelheads to the Kelly Cup (13-3, 1.86, .938, 3SO), while taking playoff MVP honours .. An athletic, iron-willed goalie, Ellis is a tireless and meticulous competitor who boasts excellent net coverage due to his lightning-quick limbs and graceful butterfly mechanics, but must continue to refine his puckhandling and decision-making .. Has shown NHL poise and mental toughness.
Matt Ellison, Chi, LW, (Rating: 2.5), Norfolk (AHL) - Playing in his third league in as many seasons, last year's CHL Rookie-of-the-Year made a successful pro transition with 14 goals to finish second on the Admirals, and also left a good impression during his NHL debut in February .. A smart, versatile winger with strong playmaking skills, Ellison is a sturdy, elusive skater who reads the game exceptionally well and battles in high-traffic areas, despite not being overly big, though he must continue to enhance his strength and overall quickness .. Ran out of gas after returning to Norfolk and was also hampered by a leg injury in the playoffs.
Ray Emery, Ott, G, (Rating: 4.0), Binghamton (AHL) - Hotheaded former CHL Goalie-of-the-Year was his own worst enemy last season, initially hurting his wrist in a December brawl and then re-injuring it in another punch-up in March, which also drew a five-game league suspension and likely factored into a disastrous relief effort for Ottawa in the regular season finale .. An intense, hybrid goalie, Emery battles for every inch in the crease, taking full advantage of his imposing frame and exceptional reflexes, although he must continue to manage his positional play and volatile temper .. Underwent off-season wrist surgery.
Loui Eriksson, Dal, LW, (Rating: 4.0), Vastra Frolunda (Swe) - Smooth-skating Swedish second-rounder engineered a fine breakthrough season to capture SEL Rookie-of-the-Year honours, and also raised his stock with an eye-opening performance at the U-20 World Juniors (6-1-1-2) .. An instinctive, highly-skilled sniper, Eriksson displays excellent poise and skill with the puck, and has a gift for creating space for his quick, accurate shot, and certainly isn't a one-dimensional player as he also possesses good work habits and defensive awareness .. 'King Loui' was a constant offensive threat last season, despite seeing primarily fourth-line duty until being paired with Alexander Steen towards the end.
