Trevor Daley, Dal, D, (Rating: 3.0), Hamilton (AHL) - Among the final camp cuts, former Soo Greyhounds captain spent his pro debut shuttling between Utah and Dallas, where he saw extensive powerplay time with the Stars, but was unable to secure a permanent spot .. A stocky, undersized tornado with sound two-way instincts, Daley plays an energetic, up-tempo game, always willing to show off his good puckhandling skills and extraordinary skating abilities, but is also a risk-taker with a propensity for sudden turnovers and defensive lapses .. Made significant in-roads over the final few months with the Grizzlies.
Dominic D'Amour, Tor, D, (Rating: 2.5), St. John's (AHL) - Off-radar third-rounder blossomed into a two-way force last season, surpassing the combined totals from his first 151 'Q' games, while playing a central role in helping the Olympiques to within a goal of a Memorial Cup crown (20-5-7-12 in playoffs and Mem Cup) .. A tough, intelligent rearguard, D'Amour is a formidable one-on-one barrier as he knows how to position himself and exploit his long reach and excellent skating range, yet also boasts good outlet skills and a hard, lively point shot .. A very involved player who looks to continue his rapid ascent during his pro debut.
Yann Danis, Mtl, G, (Rating: 3.0), Hamilton (AHL) - Undrafted Quebec native stood on his head for most of the season in carrying the Brown Bears to their best league finish in nine seasons, and capped a record-setting collegiate career by being named a top-three Hobey Baker finalist and garnering multiple awards, including ECAC Player of the Year .. A steady, lightning-quick goalie with great focus and reflexes, Danis is a skilled shot-blocker who always maintains superb shape and positioning, backed by masterful rebound management .. Posted the second-best career save percentage in NCAA history (.930), and then a shutout in his pro debut with the Bulldogs.
Jeff Deslauriers, Edm, G, (Rating: 3.5), Edmonton (AHL) - Outplayed by rookie Alexandre Vincent over the opening two months, imposing second-rounder caught fire to post a sizzling 17-8-4 record from December onwards, and was sensational in backstopping the underdog Sagueneens to the QMJHL playoff semifinals .. The quiet, strong-skating Deslauriers plays a hybrid stand-up/butterfly style, effectively utilizing his sound positioning and massive frame to block out the net, and is tough to beat down low due to his quick, powerful legs, though rebounding remains an area for improvement .. A low-maintenance, high-focus player who has impressed with his ability to bounce back from adversity.
Gerard Dicaire, TB, D, (Rating: 2.5), Springfield (AHL) - Without a primary AHL affiliate, Tampa was forced to send twice-drafted former Buffalo second-rounder to Utah, where he found icetime hard to come by playing behind the Dallas prospects .. Dicaire is a skilled, heads-up puckmover and talented outlet passer who also excels as a power-play quarterback, however, he isn't a punishing physical player and must continue to upgrade his skating and agility .. Will get plenty of attention with the new affiliation in Springfield after being a victim last season.
Wade Dubielewicz, NYI, G, (Rating: NR), Bridgeport (AHL) - Making a historic pro debut, undrafted Denver All-American was named AHL Rookie of the Year after leading the league with a .946 save percentage and a 1.38 goals-against average, breaking a 66-year old AHL record (also established a new freshman standard with nine shutouts) .. A calm, economical goalie, Dubielewicz relies on his athleticism and sharp reflexes to compensate for a lack of size, and is very adept managing rebounds, though he must keep improving his strength and puckmoving skills .. Performed well during a late NHL debut, which was tempered by a very ordinary playoff for the Sound Tigers (2-1, 3.64, .880).
Devan Dubnyk, Edm, G, (Rating: 3.0), Kamloops (WHL) - Behemoth goalie followed up a sub-par showing at the U18 world cup in August with an up-and-down campaign, but was often the last line of defense for an average Kamloops team and showed encouraging poise at the U18 world juniors in Minsk, Belarus .. A goalie of a Dryden-esque stature between the pipes, Dubnyk is a well-spoken competitor who plays a positionally sound game with deceptive dexterity and uncanny ability to decipher opposing attack plans, but at times struggles to maintain focus and must improve his lateral quickness as well as foot speed .. Perhaps the front runner to start in goal for Canada at the World Juniors this winter.
